KUBOTA RTV PROBLEMS

Do you hear the fan running when it is hot?? Not just boiling, but when it is hot? If there were an intermittent failure of the electrical connection to the fan, then it would run OK for a while, then disconnect when hitting a bump...leading to quick over heating...Just suggesting that all connections to fan and temp sensor be checked to make sure they are very secure. Just a thought.

Yes dealer did that. yes fan comes on soon after starting. Dealer did an electrical test on fan sensor. Then replaced sensor and thermostat,

The fan comes on at startup regardless if the fan sensor is good or not, the fan is controlled by a relay the sensor kicks on. I had a boil over when new because the fan sensor was bad. You need to verify fan is operational during use. I have a small sharpie dot on the dash screen over temp guage where the needle gets to when the fan sensor kicks. Your temp guage should never get to halfway mark.Wile using it and you see temp gauge high, simply turn off then restart and as the fan kicks on at startup you will see the needle drop quick. I had to do that until my sensor arrived, dealer mailed it to me under warranty.

Well we shall see next Tuesday as a Northern Rep is coming to see if he can resolve this issue. I dont care if he does,as thee engine is compromised from boiling over so may times. I will challenge them on the Lemon Law and the Magnuson Moss warranty act. This lemon is gonna be gone.
Even if I have to sue Kubota.

As I previously stated fan sensor and thermostat have been replaced . A good bet it is in the temp guage it provides optimum operating temp info to fan.
sometimes it never moves to hot even on boil over.

As a previous owner of an RTV 500, I'm a little confused by your reference to a defroster. Generally there is no HVAC in a 500 unless it was added on, a whole other issue at play. The only RTV's that have HVAC OEM stock are the 1100ish series. 16HP, that's pretty much the advertised HP no deception there. Not a RZR, well did you test drive it?

Me thinks there is another thing at foot here..maybe I'm wrong. There's also that whole thing about RTV500's being air-cooled--Just sayin'

The sort of OP post:

Wow what a big dissapointment. I bought a new 2014 RTV 500. Constant over heating problems. @ dealers cant fix it. Very weak power wise.
19 mph tops 16hp. Gets hot quickly.
I took it to the dealer and gave it back 70 hours total time.I told them the engine is compromised at this point. Boiled over a dozen times.
kubota generally have a great reputation. Lets see how they treat me on the buy back

Not air cooled....the RTV 400 is air cooled but the 500 is liquid and has been from the start as far as I recall.

Corrected that a few weeks ago.

The consumer protection statutes provide recourse in certain situations...

In California they are limited to personal use and not business... so as long as it is personal, the warranty is in force, all manufacturer's instructions followed, unit not abused and the Dealer/Manufacturer have had several unsuccessful repair attempts regarding a significant defect... you have a good prima facie case... in my State.

Remedy is limited to a buyback with use deduction or exchange....

You may also be able to request a refund of sales tax separately...

In the past... I have had manufacturers offer extended warranty at no charge... sometimes the consumer accepted... sometimes not.

Still remember a case where the car in question was granted a special 100k warranty... it caused a lot of potential issues because no other car in the country had this special warranty at the time... after, the manufacturer said it would have simply been better to offer a buyback due to logistics of tracking this one unique warranty...

I just wonder if the "Lemon Laws" apply to off road vehicles. I was under the impression that the law was primarily focused on cars/trucks.

I don't know about Michigan... although the Magnuson Moss is Federal...

Magnuson

In California the statute is Song Beverly and it applies to a wide range of devices... even hearing aids...

I found this:
http://www.lemonlaw.com/state-lemon-laws/ said:
Four-wheel vehicles used for personal, family or household use, or fleets of less than 10, including pick-ups and vans, excluding buses, trucks and motor homes.

Glad I'm not a lawyer..Most people I know with non "on-road" stuff are left wanting in my experience anyway. Even the Lemon Law is hard to engage in PA.

Unless there are some state statute, there is no "Lemon Law" that applies to equipment.

IMO...for simple process of elimination you should probably remove the modifications you made before the local rep looks at the machine. Non-factory modifications are going to be the first thing they question.

The main source of the federal Lemon Law is the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. In 1975.

Congress passed this Act which requires manufacturers of consumer products to provide consumers with detailed information about the product’s warranty coverage. It serves to help prevent manufacturers from using unfair warranty provisions and agreements. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act also makes it easier for a consumer to receive warranty information, review warranty information and bring a warranty case against a manufacturer.

When most people think of the “Lemon Law,” they think of motor vehicles. However, each state has adopted different rules and many state laws and the federal law will apply to a multitude of consumer products... the key word is consumer products... I know of "Lemon Law" cases for garden tractors, boats, jet skis, etc...

I don't know of any relating to products used in commerce.

Maybe personal or commerce use could be determined by whether the item in question is claimed as a business expense on the individual's tax return.

I'm not a lawyer and my only experience hearing Lemon Law cases in in California.

Has anyone had problems with the diff locks not working? I have 3 rtv 500’s all the diff locks failed within first 50 hours. The dealer is denying warranty and quoted 18,000$ to fix

Nope, what was the failure mode? What kind of use did they see?
Have you thought about starting your own thread on the issue?

All three units failed within their first 50 hours while operating on a golf resort in central alberta.
the failure is a hairline crack in the diff Center casting that makes up the contact point for the diff lock.
I haven’t figured out how a hairline crack and surface wear you need a micrometer to measure renders the locker completely inoperable. I also don’t understand how if it was slipping we aren’t able to hear it or feel it contacting every revolution.
Yes I will start a threat good idea!

I must have got a good one. I have hauled a 22 tonne dump truck load up my hills into the bush with mine so far. It actually goes 1 MPH faster with a load on climbing the hill. Only time it slows down is if I have the AC on. That sucks a lot of power. But as has been said with AC on when it starts to loose power, let up on the pedal and it will go faster.
Mine shifts good. The odd time it does get sticky if I am on a hill loaded, I just let it start to roll a bit then shift. No problem. Otherwise mine shifts good brakes on or off.

We serviced the RTV changed all the filters and fluids 2 weeks ago and that didn't help. We got it about 2 months ago and sent it back to the dealer shortly after to get some of these problems fix and he claims there is nothing wrong with it. I cant imagine throwing gravel in one of these machines ,ours would never do that in any gear. Ours would never be able to pull a very steep hill with a full heavy load in it either. High gear is good for flat ground or down hill only. I dont know if this is the newer version or not, the throttle lever seems to have some kind of a plunger control on it.
Guys, we might be talking about gas vs diesel here but....my diesel 1120D doesn't much care if I'm in lo or hi....I use lo on wooded STEEP hills and expect and intend to go very slow. But....I have two semi steep gravel hills on my road and it slows to 9 mph....yes, 9....full throttle, hi/lo. On level with a quarter mile it will get to 30mph. Just saying....it aint no speeder. :sneaky:
