I knew someone would catch that safty isue. But if you see how tight that shaft fits on that front mount and how short it is. You would have to do some kind of yoga to get to it. I put it in the same catagory as some machine guards I have run into in the past. they make it impossiable to hurt your self and also nearly impossiable to operate the equipment. But if you remove them the company is also removed from lialiblity. Hope I didn't open a can of worms here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the same snowblower on my bx1800 and have found that if I use the hydraulics to lift the front of the tractor slightly it is pretty easy to get the short drive shaft lined up and installed without having to remove the safety shield.

Have to agree that the short shaft can be a pain to hook up but it can be done with very little religion being lost.As some one once said "the diffcult we do right away the impossible takes a little longer". I spent nearly 45 minutes yesterday getting my attached, a little grease worked wonders. Sheilds and guards are there because someone was injured in the past, they are not put there to make it diffcult for anyone.

The post that you made about shear blots didn't sink in until I used my snowblower for the first time today and it seems that both sides broke...as I am new to tractors and implements, I'm not really sure how to mark the alignment as you explained...do you maybe have a picture or can I ask you to explain it so a newbie like me would know how? I'd really appreciate it...I will be at the dealer on Monday to pick up a selection of these and cotter pins too as I have lost one of those too...Also, is there something that I can do to keep these things from breaking, or is that just part of using a tractor? Thanks again..

Make sure that the area you are blowing is free of any rocks, obstructions, or anything else that will stop the auger from turning. The shear pins are a safety measure so you don't destroy the gear box. Ice can also cause them to shear, but I think it is too early in the season for ice to be the problem. I have seen people replace them with harder bolts and as a result, they no longer break, but the teeth on the gears are stripped away to nothing after a while. Always use the proper shear bolts as replacements....

Until the ground freezes and I get a base of snow to work with gravel drives are tough on shear pins. I usuallly use my back blade for the first couple of snows. I turn the blade backwards and angle it. This way I don't dig in and bring up more rocks. I want to try a piece of plastic pipe on the cutting edge of the blower to see if that will help early on. I bought a used Tyrone hydraulic motor from a private party that advertised on ebay. The motor is quite small but can handle about 110 inch pounds of torgue. I had an adapter made at a local machine shop for $40.00 to adapt the shaft on the snowblower to the motor. I made the mount for the motor out of aluminum angle using stainless steel bolts. The motor turns the chute quite fast if you aren't careful but it feathers very well with the valve. I just spent the last two hours blowing snow as we have about 28 inches with more coming. The blower does an excellent job but with the quantity that we are getting, ground clearance on the bx can be a problem on rough terrain. If you like, when the weather clears, I'd be happy to take and post pictures.

I for one would like to see pics of the hydraulic chute turner. Right now I am using a manual crank....works ok but hydraulic would be better and easier as I have a fourway valve and have two lines available when using the snow blower.
