going to do the 50 hr service on a M7040HD-1.

Anybody use Wix filters instead of Kubota filters for engine and transmission? they around $10 less for the transmission .

Just bought the UDT oil 17.5 gallons cost me $311 with tax!!!

I've never used anything but Kubota filters especially for the transmission. I've read many, many posts about factory warranty not covering other filters but no actual case. I've read many, many stories about saving $10 on a $40,000 machine. I've even read the ones about a $300 to $400 cost for fluids and risking a problem over saving $10 on the filter. I've even read the ones about how filters are built to factory specs by different companies vs cheap name brand ones to compete or be able to sell cheaper at Wal Mart.
I use Kubota filters for transmissions on all my Kubotas.:)

I have the B series, and use the Wix oil and transmission filters. It wasn't price, but my opinion that they are at least as well made (possibly better), the Wix guarantee that they meet all warranty requirements, and they are just easier to find...no chasing the Kubota dealers.

The Kubota transmission filter is made in Japan and I would stick with that. The Kubota engine filters are made in Indonesia and I use Wix engine oil filters on my Kubotas. However if your still under warrenty I would use the Kubota filters just so there isn't any hassle in case something goes wrong.

I have the model and the Wix filters. But I'm saving the Wix filters until the warranty is up. No reason to hassle with Kubota or Wix over their warranties, who does the repairs, and who pays what.

The chance of something going wrong is miniscule but we paranoid types use the Kubota filters for now. $10 more for filters is cheap insurance since you won't be changing filters for another 300 hrs (and quite some time depending on use).

At least you are using quality hydraulic oil. I tried the cheap stuff and the transmission performance was terrible. That hydraulic clutch is picky.

Changed oil at 50 hrs. and then again at 75 hrs. It is the cheapest person that spends the most in the end.

I have not used anything but Kubota filters, but have not really done any research on alternatives; always interested in learning though as I have used Wix on other machines.

I don't think engine oil filters are much of an issue, as very high quality oil filters are made by FleetGuard, Hastings/Baldwin, Wix etc. I'd never be concerned about those. They are likely better than a Kubota, frankly.

But the trans filters are so "custom" and I've never found any other option than the Kubota. That's fine, because it doesn't get changed THAT often and it seems to be quite unique, often times with magnetic rings, etc.

They're kind of niche and there isn't likely a big enough segment for the big filter companies to bother with.

I have used both kubota filters and wix. They both work fine but the price is not much different The biggest savings can come from your fluid. Tractor supply sells their premium udt that meets kubota, deere, new holland specs. You can get 5 gallons for $39. Neither deere nore kubota makes their own oil and as long as meets the warranty specs you will be fine. I have used their fluid in my 2 kubotas, massey and new holland tractors for the last 6 years with 0 problems.

Same here, we have used Ambra, Case, Sinclair I think, as well as Kubota UDT and SUDT and another I forget and no problems.

I believe Ashland does Kubota fluids/lubricants.

I forget who it is, but its not Ashland. Kubota sued Ashland for claiming compatibility with SUDT and won.

I remembered an old thread in which Ashland was their provider; guess it is true you can't believe everything on the Internet.

Same here ---- I use Napa Gold oil filters on my engine but Kubota on my HST. I never did find a substitute HST filter that met Kubota specs.

OK i got the filters from Napa today and the oil from my dealer. They gave me UDT oil When i check the owners manual it says to use UDT when I look at the shop service manual it said to use Super UDT.

Then I look at the engine oil requirements the owners manual said to use 15w-40 the shop manual said to use 10w-40 . witch one is right ? Will the shell Rotela T oil be ok?

Then the question of oil type there are different ratings in the manual for a external egr valve versus a internal egr valve .

This is a M7040HD-1 Tractor the engine has a turbocharger .

Thanks for any input the owners manual and shop manual have different requirements on every thing

FYI...

Baldwin has a listing for the Lxx30 and Lxx40 HST filter. It is approximately $25 less in cost and has the billet end cap similar to the Kubota P/N. (Baldwin P/N BT9358)

Super UDT2 seems to be made by Ashland. At least that is what the MSDS posted on Kubota's website implies. (See attachment or link below).

OK, here is what I use on My M7040HD-1:

11.6 qts. Chevron Delo 15w-40, Kubota HH1C0-32430 oil filter but Wix 51311 (Napa) will do.

14.8 gal. Kubota UDT equivlant (New Holland Ambra but Case HYTran works, too. Stay away from Sam's, Costco, Tractor Supply because of the reliance of the tractor on hydraulics), Kubota HH330-82630 filters (2)

The shop manual is old for the M7040. Check the date and serial numbers that the manual addresses. I'd recommend going by the owner's manual. Then your warranty will be fine.

Here is the P/N's for the hydraulic filter from both Baldwin and Wix.

Baldwin:
Part Number Manufacturer Baldwin p/n
HHTA037710 KUBOTA BT8488

Wix:
Manufacturer Part Number Manufacturer WIX Part Number
HHTA037710 KUBOTA 57098

Kubota P/N was taken from Messick's web site. Although the Kubota P/N is different than listed by gwdixon, HH330-82630 crossreferences to the same WIX and Balwin P/N listed above. (ie: HHTA-037710 similar to HH330-82630)

DiscountFleet.com has the Wix 57098 for $17.68 while Kubota wants $40.78.

Baldwin Filter: , Oil Filters, Air Filters, Fuel Filters: Stocking factory authorized distributor of Baldwin Filters wants $26.35 for the Baldwin P/N.

I have bought from both places as WIX did not have the HST filter P/N needed for my tractor. Bought several filters at once and saved a bunch even when shipping was added in. Both delivered quickly.

I bought the Wix 557098 filters for the transmission. They are made different and will not except the magnets in the filters. So I will be returning them tomorrow and picking up OEM filters.

Also bought the Napa Gold 1085 engine oil filter next time all filters will be OEM . side by side the Wix filter feels cheaper metal gauge and weight.

This is the 50 Hr service The hydraulic was just as clean as new some sludge on the magnets , the engine oil was a little dark but the front differential oil was very dark. I will replace this again in 50 hrs to keep a eye on it .

Thanks for all the replies and recommendations

I just crossed over the L**40 series Hyd. filter, the expensive one, and it's really only $4-6 less than Messick's price, that's not enough to try and track the Baldwin down.

HHTA0-59900 $57.79
Baldwin BT9358 @ Graingers $53.85
Baldwin BT9358 @ Application Associates $51.46

The hydraulic oil will generally look clean even after a long period of use. Sometimes the wet brakes will add color but not much. There is no carbon from ignition to darken it.

Engine oil in a diesel gets dark almost immediately. Trust the hours rather than the appearance. The special additives extend the service if good oil is used.

The front differential oil shouldn't be that dark. Kubota puts in UDT but most folks in the know replace it with 80-90 gear oil in the lower 48 (maybe not Minnesota:)).

The manual way overstates the amount of oil to use in the front differential. I think they list the gear case and the differential as separate units. In fact, it is all one reservoir. Two gallons of gear oil will be plenty with some left over. Then you'll be good for another 600 hrs. No need to change it again in another 50 hrs.

you are right about the front differential took 2 gallons if that. the manual called for over 3 gallons
