Buying Advice L, M, or MX series? Can you offer guidance?

When mowing on inclines, I use 4WD, otherwise 2WD. When mowing flat ground or slight incline I remove the FEL, but in our hills it needs weight on the front. The FEL takes under five minutes to mount/dismount, so I have done it to mow a couple of hours then put it on/remove.

My front end gets a little light with a 6' bush hog, but nothing I am uncomforable with. Steering is fine, no issues. But, I do not deal with hills here in central Indiana. Maybe the Kubota weighs more in the front than the Massy? Philip.

Not sure, but most 4wd tractors are heavier in the front than 2wd tractors. I've had a couple 2wd rigs that 'needed' extra weight in front...

If I was mowing on steep hills I would leave it leave it in 4wd all the time to tell help the tractor get up the hill and to keep it from sliding on the way back down.

If you are looking at an MX5100 I would strongly suggest looking at the DK..SE Kioti tractors. They will probably be the same price or less and are much nicer tractors.

Value for my BX-25 and MF231

Okay, I'll ask one last question - this about trade in/sale value for my 2011 BX25 w/49 hrs and for the 1999 MF 231 w/470 hrs. My favorite dealer thus far(I've spoken to 3; had fair quotes from 2) offered me $6000 for the MF and $11,000 for the BX. Tractorhouse shows selling prices a grand or two above the Massey; so I think the offer is close.

$11000 for the BX seems like taking too great of a loss for the convenience of a trade. It's perfect, save for a few scratches on the bucket teeth and FEL bucket. I have the 3 pt hitch to go with it.

I don't have a blue book for equipment. What do you folks consider it worth?

After carefully considering keeping one of the tractors, I've come to the conclusion that I can't afford the tractor equipped the way I want without giving up the ones I have.

I don't know what the massey is worth but he bx is worth more than that. Bxs are about as much used as they are new or at least thats what I have seen.

You might want to check with Barlow's to see if they will do a trade, I think others have done that and were happy with the deals they got. JOHNTHOMAS just traded in a low hour BX25 and may be able to give you an idea as to the trade in value.

I have a couple of observations:

M7040 rides way smoother than L3400. I believe frame size and layout (wheelbase and seat position) as well as tire size make a difference. Utility better ride than cut.

Every sales guy I have talked to in the past two weeks actively shopping knows less than most people who have posted here about Kubotas lineup. Some know almost nothing. Of the five i have talked to only one was at all knowledgeable. Maybe just my 2 dealers but beware. That was also reflected in price quotes. $1000 off kubota rebate was missed by multiple.

HST is nice. Gear shift is nice. Personally I prefer HST for loader and general utility work. I like gear for field and hay work. My brother was worried about bush hogging with his new geared 7040. Fears went away in a hurry. Rides like a dream. Not comparable to l3400 or ford naa ride. Very smooth. And he beats the daylight out of equipment. Hydraulic shuttle is very nice. He got it and I am trying to.

Remember that your needs will change. Plan now for future if possible. My L went from small food plots to haying 20 acres in a couple years. Buy the biggest one you can. No one ever says their tractor is too big. Best of luck.

just read the thread, a bit late but I have only had hst in the 2 L series I have owned, L3230 and L5030. I am not familiar with gear shifting but I will say that the loader work is so fast with hst, by the time your bucket is full your backing up without a thought. I also had the SSQA and run forks, makes the switch very painless. I had about 500 hrs on each with no problems. Great thread. I'm almost ready for another...wouldn't even consider a non hst.
