Buying Advice L series, what makes it Grand?

/ L series, what makes it Grand? #21
Thanks all, it seems the L30 does not offer all that much in "grand" options. It has a improved instrument cluster and improved 3 point lift cylinders. But does not seem to incorporate the Hst+.

The L **30 do not have HST+ but they have the soft touch hst. In other words your foot control of the hst works very nice. You have excellent speed control. I actually prefer how it performed over the HST + because it is more precise. I still love my HST+ though and likely would not trade it for anything else.

I think the dual speed hydro is worth every penny.

HST+ is worth every penny? To who? Not to me its not but I don't own one either.

I suspect most people will say this. The fact is that you need to use it for some time to really understand how much of a benefit it is. My guess is that most every brand will be offering it in the near future and Kubota will offer a B series with it as well.

Boy if it does get into the B's, I just might have to trade my B7800 in. That sure would make for a good sub, just think 6 gears wow!

I am not trash talking HST+, just saying to me it is not worth every penny. My HST is fine for me.

I think you've made your point, what's not worth every penny to "you" might be to someone else. If you've never even tried one you wouldn't know. You really have to see in action to understand it. No one is saying yours or other HST's are inferior.

Maybe you should check this out for a better understanding of what it is:

Only because the L3130's are not a current model and the HST+ had not been introduced when they were being sold. The current equivalent to an L3130 is the L3240, which does have the upgraded HST+ tranny. The L3130 was the Grand model in the 30 hp size and had all the features that came with the Grand models at the time.

The Grand L's have more convenience features, but they also have increased capability. For example, if you compare the current 32 hp standard L3200 and the 32 hp Grand L3240, the 3240 is between 5 and 10% larger in size, depending on what you are measuring, it's 30% heavier, lifts almost 90% more on the 3pt, has a larger engine, etc. They are just a bigger tractor. If you were comparing the standard L offered at the same time as the L3130, you'd find the same differences.

Man, I kept reading the posts in this thread waiting for somebody to get to the REAL diff. between the standard L and grand L, but Grandad4 finally nailed it after 3 pages. Features are nice, but they're just features and a lot of people don't care about or need the frills. The weight, size and lift capacities of the grand L is what sets it apart and should be the deciding factor of what you buy. They are so different, they really shouldn't share the same L series name.

Not just "features" but also capabilities. Too many people unfamiliar with both models equate features and capabilities with "frills". I do agree though that the means of differentiating models is difficult not only with Kubota, but Kioti, John Deere and others. I get as confused with the designations of CK and DK as much as L and GL.

I wanted the most capable tractor in a particular physical size. So I went with the GL. Never been sorry I did.

Yes, that is my point, it's the capabilities that really set the two apart, not the features. There is a very large difference in capabilities of the two L branches of the series, and that is why they really need to be named as their own series. This is more confusing to me than naming from the other manufacturer. Deere has it's series, the 1000,2000,3000 etc, Kioti has the same type of thing, CS, CK, DK, RX as do the others. Each one denotes a size and horsepower range and you expect a big change as you move between each series. The L Series is different and here's an example of how I see it. The Kioti CK series compares to the standard L but you need to compare the DK series to the grand L machines. Having owned both a CK and DK series tractor, I can tell you they are night and day in what they can do, regardless of their features.
