The grand L-series and the L series have been around for a while, it started with the 10 series for the grand L. As the next generation grand L tractors were introduced it became the 30 series and then 40 and the latest 60 series. Years ago the L-series were the 2000 series and through the years with the models with the likes of the 2050!
Kubota has used the letter and number system for years and it's a good thing for the years they have built tractors they might have run out of new numbers! Kubota does just as many other companies do and it really is quite simple to understand.

I would like to make a little note about the HST plus it is very easy to fall in a comfort zone with the anti-stall on and hd-s mode and they will feel soft or not as aggressive as some of the older Kubota hydros used in the earlier Grand L's. There is also the additional weight and depending on ballasting your are moving more weight.

I looked and looked and it still didn't come off the ground yet.

It was off the ground. Put your glasses on:D I used the tractor to lower it of the blocks, move it, and put it back on the blocks.

Well I test drove it, it is SWEET. while not the much discussed Hst +. It is smoother than other hydrostatic in the b series. And indeed it seemed bigger. I had just looked at the current model L3200 and this was felt bigger. According to previous threads it is because it IS bigger. At any rate, the input on this forum has been priceless, thank you. Now to get a good idea of what to offer the guy, I will put that in a different thread if you can help. Hint, (he seems firm at 15k)

I don't know of any other company that has two vastly different tractors in the same tractor series. Kubota isn't even consistent with it, they have a M series and an MX series, why not an L series and LX series?

I'm not personally confused about the naming, I was planning on buying a Kubota and did a lot of research on them. Actually, I know a great deal more about the L series and it's naming than Kubota owners who think the only difference between a standard and grand L is a few fancy features.

My original point was that they're vastly different, so much so, I personally don't understand why they wouldn't have separated the lines, made the standard version the LX or given it some other letter. I guess they could just name every tractor they make an L something, that would make as much sense to me.

Me too and we still have several that my brothers use regularly. One of our renters is in his 80's and runs John Deere 7000 and 8000 Series tractors, so you may never want one. One of those "whatever floats your boat" things.

I use both gear and HST, so I guess I got my bases covered.

Well, I have the L3130 (Grand) but also learned something from Grandad4 and kiotiken's posts. Its been a great tractor for me since I bought it in 2004...it's done everything I've asked it to do and after 650 hours I've had zero problems. I didn't buy the HST, so I don't know what I'm missing, but I'm happy with the gear drive (and slightly higher horsepower). I wasn't sure about spending the extra bucks for the 723 FEL but find I use it all the time. Good luck with your search.

It really isn't to difficult! You have an L-series and you have a grand L-series. They are both tractors, yes they could have added another letter but they added Grand instead. Mighty small point on one of the most advanced tractors built in that size range. I wonder what kioti will call it when they introduce their copy of it?

I think they will go one more. Kubota didn't invent the tractor you know.

Is this post a joke or are you serious?

First, the model numbers all start with L, not SL and GL or anything else, just L.

Second, Kubota makes a great tractor. The standard L isn't for me, but I'd be happy with a Grand L. My Kioti has features a grand L doesn't and it's missing some that the grand L has. My Kioti is more capable in some ways, and less so in others. I'm assuming by "the most advance tractor built in that size range" you're talking about HST+ on the new grand L's. Yes it's impressive and I hope Kioti develops their own advanced HST. FYI Kubota wasn't the first company to develop an advanced HST transmission, so if you consider anything developed by others to be "copies" of it, you'd really have to call HST+ a copy as well.

I don't really care what Kubota names their tractors, and I'm dropping the whole thing after this post. The thing is, they're confusing even Kubota owners and fooling them into thinking they're getting the same tractor with less features. BX owners don't think they're getting the same thing a B owners even though there's some overlap of hp and there's just as big of a difference in frame size with the L and grand L.
