L2800 lift shudders

   / L2800 lift shudders #81
I just got my L2800HST this weekend and the jerky 3PH has claimed its first victim.

I have a, slightly aged, 4' rotary cutter that has a chain that runs from the top link to the back end of the cutter. I lifted the cutter after running it for a few hours and the lift jerked it an extra amount and snapped the chain.

Now, granted, the chain had seen better days, but, had it been the 3010 valve, I bet the chain would still be intact.

My dealer said that they would change out the valve at the 50 hour maintenance, just told me to call a week ahead of time so they could order the valve.

Yes there is a way to tell if it has been changed.
1. There is a threaded rod under tha l/h side of the seat that will be adjusted and the thresds will not be painted where the nut used to be.
2. The case cover under the seat has to be removed for replacement so there will be new sealant, paint and general tooling marks from the work being preformed.

You can also have them get a L2800/L3400 that has not been updated and park them side by side for a direct comparison.
I did this and there is a big difference.

OK fellas, I got it back today (had to go get it and drop it off) and the lift is much better. I also has them do the extra capacity on the oil mod. If anyone else has had this done, do you now have a dipstick on the middle hump cover on the floor? Also, there is like an aluminum extension tube on the back where you fill the hyd. oil at. Is this the same for everyone elses? One last thing, my lift does not seem to go as high. I measured 26 1/4" to the center of the lift pin that goes into the lift arm socket when my 6" mower is lifted to max height. Could all of you guys do me a favor and measure yours with an implement on and tell me what you get. My dealer was not real helpful and scratched the paint up and left bolts loose but I have it back now. I want to make sure it is lifting up all the way

I assume your measuring from a flat floor. You didn't mention what kind of tires you have. I think my L3400 is the same size and I have R4 tires. For what it's worth, my arm is 30 inches from the floor in the fully raised position. This is from the floor surface to the center of the hole in the end of the arm.

Did the extra oil make the over run clutch much quieter?

Dieselsmith your dealer should have adjusted the feed back rod after installing the new vavle. On the new vavles I have installed they all needed to be adjusted to bring the arms up to max hieght. It is easy to do. If you need help let me know and I will explain how it is done.

Please help! With the price of fuel and my dealer being a beatoff, that is the best plan. You can e-mail me direct at dieselsmith@zoominternet.net if you want. Please make it detailed so I don't mess it up. Yes it did quiet my pto down. Thanks!

Could you post how to do the ajustment? I don't think mine goes quite as high after the valve either. Thanks, Brian

They lengthen the rod on mine, I would give you a dimension but I am at work and I don't know if there is a specific dimension or if it is adjusted as required per tractor.
Jackncoke sounds like he would/should know the procedure.

Adjusting Hieght

1. Remove implements from 3ph
2. Park tractor on level ground, set brakes, lower 3ph down, and turn engine off.
3. Lift 3ph up by hand as far as it will go and draw a reference mark on lift cover and lift arms. The mark should be made right where the arms come out of the lift cover.
4. Start tractor and raise 3ph up using control vavle. Check distance between this hieght and the hieght in step 3. Your max hieght should be about 3/16" -1/4" below the mark in step 3. If it is any higher the control vavle may not shut off and open the relief valve.
5. If arms raise to high or low, adjust feed back rod. This is the rod connected to the left lift arm. Make it longer to raise and shorter to lower max hieght. FOR SAFETY make sure to adjust it with the engine off. I had to adjust the rod almost as long as it would go on the 2 I have done.

Basically you are trying to get the feed back rod to shut the control vavle off just before the cylinder gets to the end of its stroke.

Good luck its easier than it sounds.
