L3240 rubber boot ripped

No fork needed.. I took the lower nut off and simply took a rubber hammer and two hits it came right off. Now- the tractor only has 40 hrs on it so that had a lot to do with it... The lower nut I set wrench to 80lbs and it clicked... I thought it was good and tight- that was the same place it was when it came off. With only 40 hours I don't think it would have much wear. Now the lock nut on the end of the tie rod that is adjustable I dont know I dont have open end torqure wrench
But it is good and tight.. Dang thing was finger loose when I went to take it off:laughing:

I have 2 of the rubber boots to replace the torn ones on my L4400HST. I will change them out this weekend. What kind of grease did you lube the joint with before installing the boot?

I used Valvolineｮ Multi-Purpose-RED I have used this type alot and like the hold up I have seen in trailer bearings...

Thanks, I ripped mine rotary cutting some thick stuff. I have some thick belting and will implement the great idea previously posted.

Here is the guard I made tonight.. I will do a little trimming on the cover so it fits a little better. I used the factory bolts and holes. The converyor belt works good.. I will post the final product tomorrow night.. With pictures of the tires turned both ways. Wife said NO to cranking up the tractor at midnight.....

Thanks for the information. The bolts on my BX2660 were not even finger tight.

Hey Andy...That looks really good! I have messed around with conveyor belt material myself...but did not think to use it as guard material. My mind was stuck on mud flap material. Did you melt the ends to keep them from unraveling?
