could a piece of tire be worked in for protection?

When I put new boots on, I am sure going to try to figure out additional protection as I mow some pretty rough brush.

Since I used our M8540 with my L5030, I need to go up and check it too.

I was able to get to the boot today. Thanks for all the help and I like the mud flap deal- gives me some ideas:licking: I have always been glad folks posted pictures of fixes. It has helped me a few times fixing stuff. So here is my return.. Pics of the fix...

Is that boot a Kubota part, if so, I'd like the part # in case I tear another one on my BX2200, might be worth a try to make it fit since that boot only comes with the $40 some dollar part.

Hey Andy that looks great! You would never have known it was repaired. When I took my tie rods off, I wrote down how many thread turns it took to separate the tie rod from the knuckle, instead of measuring the thread length. I guess one's as good as the other...long as the length stays the same.

It looks like you are using the same grease I use. It is red in color...Chevron Ultra Duty EP2.

I had replaced both on my 3940 since then neither has torn again. Seems to me that when they come on the tractor from the factory painted they be come brittle and tear easier. Just what I have notice

I think that is absolutely hands down what was wrong with my boot. Once I got it off it seemed very brittle compared to the new one. I believe that the factory paint hardens them up some. I do see the need to put some type of protective shield cover over them. I will be doing that in the next few weeks with some conveyer belt I have
