Well, I went back to the dealer today. I took my 8 year old son to the lot as well - the first time he's seen a real tractor up close. He was rather disappointed that I wasn't getting one of those big M5s with a cab!

Anyway, I made myself sit down in an L3240 for a while ... and then wished that I hadn't because it was quite nice, making me wonder what I could sell to get a few extra K to toss around (perhaps a kidney?). But budgets are budgets and spending myself into a hole isn't on my to-do list, so I'm sticking with the original plan.

I'm thinking that if I'm still racking up the seat-hours in 3 years that I'll "earn" myself an upgrade by then. Surely. And honestly, the 3400 is going to be plenty of tractor for a while for a newbie like myself.

So, with the paperwork all signed, in a week or two I'll be the proud parent of:

A 3400HST w/ FEL & R4 tires, a six foot Rhino brush cutter (I had to talk the dealer into letting me get it instead of the 5 footer, and it cost me an extra $200), and a 66" box blade.

The dealer really pushed back hard when I started talking discounts, but he's throwing in a quick-attach for the 3pt and a used post hole digger. Master negotiator I'm not, but I now will have all the attachments and all the tractor that I actually need for the next few years and I did it without a penny to spare in my budget! So if I'm happy, and they're happy, then it's a square deal all around.

Thanks to all who helped me out. Thanks to everyone who has posted anywhere on this board in the past because I've already read tons of previous threads and postings while figuring out what's the best tractor for me and my needs.

I can guarantee that I will be asking TONS of questions in the next few months as I figure this tractoring thing out (for instance, is the trucker/ball cap a requirement, or is it optional - I'm really not a big hat guy myself unless it's keeping my head from getting a dent in it)!

And finally - if I may - live with your Arms Out Wide. It makes all the difference in the world!

I didn't know that. That explains why I only got one.:)

THe L3400 is a good choice. I love mine.

I have had my L3400HST for about a year now. I think it is a great tractor and fits my needs. I have a 5 foot rotary cutter and I can chop up whatever I can push over so I think the 6 will be okay. I also think you did pretty well on price.

Congrats!

Congrats again for being able to decide ANYTHING after reading in here. :D

I came here after having made my deal and have doubted the decision ever since...:) (To be fair to the board, it's more the tractor choice I made than the forum that I question)

FWIW, I bought a supposedly 'economy' B7800 and received three hats, (one black, one orange, and one cammy) one deluxe jacket sized small not for me, three sweatshirts with hoods and zippers, and three orange T-shirts. I could go in business with the junk they kept piling into my arms and all that with an excellent price on the machine. It was as though I was their first customer in six months, they were so generous! Since that day they've given me two gallons of UBT and several assorted pins and clips gratis.

It's ALL about the dealer you use.

Another thing, I can't find the term "economy model" anywhere in the Kubota website. It is not a company term but instead I think it's the excuse made up by less than customer service oriented dealers who don't care about anything beyond their initial sale and their numeric standing with the Kubota bean counters. If I ever hear that term spoken by a tractor salesman anywhere he'll be looking at my backside as I leave

Which loader did you get? Kubota, or other? Did you get the QA bucket? I did not know that the QA from the LA513 would fit the LA463 when I bought my L3400 a yr & half ago. I just finally forked out the cash to buy the QA adapter & QA plate for my bucket. I am holding off until winter to start grinding the mounting ears off my bucket & weld on the QA plate.

I'm getting the Kubota loader, with the normal bucket (as far as this newbie can tell). I asked the dealer about the merits of other loaders and he said that since Kubota engineers their loaders to match specific tractors that they would outperform a mis-matched but "beefier" loader on the same tractor.

I'm only getting the quick-attach for the 3 pt hitch. I imagine that I'll be changing out 3pt atachments pretty regularly, but that I won't be taking my loader off very often. My previous "loader" was a shovel, a pick axe, two 5 gallon buckets, and a soon to be sore back, so I am extremely excited about having one on my tractor!

My 3400 is supposed to arrive on Monday, possibly on Tuesday. I'm having a hard time waiting - it's worse than a 6 year old waiting for Christmas!
