The manual's pictures for greesing the front axle on the 4x4 model was a little hard to understand were the second greese fitting was. If I remeber right, there is one on the pivot point and one on the front drive shaft.

There are two grease fittings on the front axle pivot. One in front of the axle and one back of the front axle.

It is very important both these fittings get grease regularly!

You're saying the hydraulic fluid was only 47.25? What did they use? 27 litres of UDT Premium is over $100 here, at about $80 for a 5 gallon (19 litre) pail.

Chilly, you made me go back and look and I was mistaken. I did not get a full hydro fluid replacement, it was only 2.5 gallons for lost fluid during the filter change. I misread the invoice. :ashamed:

Hmm.. I lost less than a quart when I changed both hydraulic and Hydrostat filter in my L3400HST. I did have the wife manning the vacuum cleaner on the filler port though... 2.5 gallons. maybe the mechanic didn't hurry any.:ashamed:

:shocked:What!! The book did not call out that fitting. Thank you very much for telling me about this. I greased it today before mowing.

Yep the back one is pretty easy to miss. if you don't think about it.

I am do for my 5 hour as well. went to the dealer to get all the filters and oil and they said only three filters. "No transmission" filter needed according to the computer. The manual states otherwhise and I showed him. Low and behold there IS a transmission filter. Are they the same? Hydraulic Filter on right of machine, and Transmission Filter on left? Wonder why the dealer didnt know that? I gotta call back....

Yes, the transmission filter is smaller than the hydraulic filter. I had to inform my dealer as well. Hope it went as smooth for you as my 50 hr service went for me. Nothing to it...keep your receipts to show you used Kubota hardware.

I did the 50 hour on my L3800, there is a thread I wrote to cover the steps if you do a search. Quite easy to do yourself and not much of a mess. I went w/ the manual and did not change hydro fluid yet, just the filter. My advice, save some money and get to know your tractor a little bit better by doing it yourself.

That is my plan. Is there anything more to the shop vac idea than just putting the hose over the fill neck? I am going to try to find Napa part # for the filters. My Dealer in central Ma is also a Napa dealer so I will go there. I am just doing the 50 hour stuff, don't see the need to do anything else.

It has been said many times, many ways, and certainly not all agree, but: Why would you look to save twenty bucks or so by using NAPA filters instead of Factory Kubota? Fluids are the life blood of your twenty thousand dollar tractor and Kubota filters are engineered by Kubota for their tractors. If you use Filter XYZ from Napa will your tractor fail next week? Of course not but think of the guy that will own the tractor in ten/fifteen years when it has 5,000 hours on it.

Not only should you use Kubota filters but to protect your machine and insure maximum resale value, send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs after a year's run on your engine and keep the annual reports with your owner's manual. That costs thirty bucks and is probably worth a thousand if you go to sell your machine and have evidence of no abnormal engine wear, regular oil changes and.....Kubota filters.

I got Kubota hydraulic filters and a Napa gold filter for the engine. They are made by Wix and are high quality. I have sent in oil samples to blackstone for other vehicles like my 2002 Duramax. 200,000 and going strong. It will be good to get a base sample for the engine.
