L3830 or L4330 Need your help choosing.

The old L355SS that I have been using is dying. One of the rear tires was flat and after I got that fixed and inflated, one of the front tires blew out! (This was a tractor left behind by the old home owner.) My wife agrees this event is a sign to go out and get a new one.

We have a large place with over 100acres....mostly trees. Our pasture is going to be fenced in, so light bushhogging only. Going to dig some fence post holes. Doing a lot of hardscape with rock. Biggest job both now and in the future is thinning trees and removing dead,dying or not wanted trees. This will require rather steep up and down and I plan to buy a three point grapple to drag the trees around OR at least haul trailer loads of tree rounds to be split for firewood.

I think I want to go a bit heavier duty with the L4330. But wanted advice. Please let me know if any of you have been in a similar use situation and what you bought and whether you would change.

How big of trees? You may want the 4330 for a bit of extra juice hill climbing...

Trees on the property get as large as 40 year old pines and hickories. Obvious I can cut them to any length OR cut them into splittable rounds. I guess the question is dragging a 20-30 foot hickory around OR a dump trailer full of wood.

L4330 and wheel weights or load the tires for increased traction. Depending on how big your dump trailer is and how much you load it will determine your saftey factor, the tractor weighs a little over 3500lbs, I don't think I would want 14,000lbs of loaded trailer pushing me down a steep incline /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I got the 3830 with the 723 FEL. I think the 4330 has the same size tires front and rear as the 3830 and all you are going to get with 4330 is 5 more HP. The 3830 is the middle of the line for the L series. I do a powerful lot of logging with mine.

I think the 4340 is the better choice because you can get the bigger loader.

I don't have an L series, but happened to be looking at some sales literature yesterday and noticed that in the gear version there is a creeper gear option. If I were buying a gear tractor, I would want that option. You might want consider this if you are going with gears, rather than HST.

The 4330 is the smallest tractor that can handle the LA-853 loader. I bought the 4330 for the FEL.

Our L5030 HSTC isn't that much different than a 4330. Ballasted tires plus loader and bucket the thing is nearly 6500 lbs. The 4330 with loaded tires and loader etc is gonna be near 6000, not 3500.

I was just at my bota dealer looking at a 4330 GST he said that 2 main things are different on the 4330 and they are that you get a 4cyl engine and that the front axle is wider than the 3830. That the front axle is one that is used on a small "M" seris also that the hood is a little longer, must be because of the 4 cyl. He said that the 4630 is 1800 bucks more and not worth the extra money in his opinion. It has the same everything just 5 more HP.
