I have an HST L3830. Was mowing the back of the property. All of a sudden I noticed a drop in the RPMS. I wasn't in any bind or anything. Stopped the tractor to see if RPMS would come back. They did a little but not what it should. I cut the PTO and started back to the house and RPMS started dropping again.

Anyone have any idea's???

Assuming your dash is the Intellipanel display. did you notice the temperature guage rising? These models are supposed to recognize things such as overheating and start lowering RPMs to prevent engine damage.

Check the removable screen in front of your radiator, if it is clogged take out and clean. Also, check other things such as coolant level in radiator and air filter restriction.

Well, I checked the coolant level, screens, and air filter and don't see anything. I was down to two bars on my fuel when the RPM issue happened and my temp gauge was showing four bars. I've filled the fuel tank back up and ran it without RPM issues. I've check the fuel filter/lines for leaks and I don't smell or see anything.

One other thing I have also noticed lately is a difference how it's starting. I use to just just push the clutch wait for the glow plug lite to go out and turn the key and it would start at the bottom of the throttle. Now I have to have the throttle increased for it to start. If not, the tractor will start and then shut down immediately. With the throttle increased it starts right up and runs. Once I get it running though, I can drop it back down to the bottom and it idles fine.

How many hours do you have on the tractor? I have about 275 hours on a L3830 gear model and have experienced no engine problems. I start mine as you used to start yours - just wait for the indicator light to go out, then tun the key and it starts right up every time. Have you evaluated the throttle linkage?

Change the fuel filter(s).:)

I stumped, too. It's got to be either fuel or the computer. I think someone will jump in that has some good diesel knowledge.

OK.. I'll bite... The "Filter" that I'm looking at is beside the Rad/Fan.. Where would the 2nd would be???
I don't know how many fuel filters yours has, maybe only one. Someone with more knowledge on your tractor can step in or check your manual if you have one but I would change the fuel filter first, and then do more investigation if that does not cure the problem.

My L3130 only has one filter and it is by pump on right side L3830 should be similar. The computer has no control on throttle linkage. Check fuel and filter and if filter is not plugged and fuel is good clean diesel I would say look at govenor springs or problems with pump or linkage.

My L3830 did that and it was the fuel filter believe it or not. New filter and all problems went away. Kuboman would have been right if I were asking this question.
