I'm wondering if some mice could of caused the fire by triggering a short. Remember, the tractor is insured, your life isn't.

Yep, I've had mice cause some damage to wiring, but luckily never a fire.

There is life insurance. ;) But I do know what you're saying.

Mike69440, Im so sorry to hear this. Here in Sweden its law that you must have an extra power switch off(main switch), so there no electric power on cables when you not using the unit.
Sorry to see your nice Kubota in this condition.

Good luck,
Sam

Man that sucks. If you have replacement cost on your Homeowners they should replace it, my Dad got a JD 318 replaced for an engine fire with a brand new X540 for the $500 deductible.

Thanks for all of your support.

I got it pressure washed, removing the fire extinguisher powder and about 75 Lbs. of mud ad grease. I also cleaned off a little more ledge while I was at it.

The rain caused a lot of erosion to my project. Really soggy back there right now.

As near as I can tell the fire centered either in the wiring harness or the PCB that had a lot of surface mount devices. It is just a lot of bare copper and stinky melted plastic right now.

Lucky for me it was not an engine fire. I'd expect that to be a total.

I really do not want it totaled, If it is a total, I will buy salvage and fix it myself. Kubota' are not that hard to take apart. I have way too many modifcations and reinforcements to want to go through the process of setting the machine up like I want it to work. The L39 suits my needs. Beside I would be short a lot of $$ to replace it with new, Like a nice L45, M59 or CASE 580(X)

I really do not think it is a total, as the main harness should have many termination points and the instrument and control cluster can't be that expensive??

PS

I looked up part pricing on Messicks. Assuming I missed a few item, parts should run about $2,500. Not as bad as I first thought. Kubota sells every darn part individually, so if the tractor were bought as parts, I bet it would cost over $1,000,000!

Have you any idea where it started Mike?

Hope it works out well for you.

My guess it was the instrument cluster or a short in the harness right next to the cluster.

I put a battery disconnect on my garden tractor. Now you have me thinking I should put one on the B26. Is there any reason not to have a battery disconnect? Do these tractors need electric while sitting? Are there any computers that need power?

Squirrels got to one of my cars. It was a car that didn't get used much and they built a nest on top of the engine. My wife took it to town and a couple of miles from home it lit up. Stupid squirrels. But to burn up just sitting there would tick me off.
