Hello, I thought I had decided on an M series however the dealer has a brand new L5030 cab which is significantly cheaper than the M. I have 80 acres of timber and CRP including 5 acres around the house of pasture and 3 acres of lawn. I mow with a zd28 so don't need the tractor for finish mowing, but do need it to mow pasture, make foodplots and keep up the other acres. I have priced with a loader, rear work lights and radio. Price is 31,580 for the L5030 with cab. The M series is an M7040 and is 36,000. I have not owned a tractor before. I also need it to move rock for my drive. I have some hills and stability is a big concern for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are not doing any haying, it will be enough for your use. I just purchased one for some of the same uses as you, but don't have as much property.
Your dealer may not have one, but the M5040 Cab would be a close price to the L5030 cab. That gives you a larger frame, heavier duty loader, nicer cab, really nice seat, one remote and the quick attach loader bucket.
The remote and QA bucket will cost you extra on the L5030. If the price you were quoted on the L5130 is with the QA loader with heavy duty bucket, that is a great price. It's not a bad price even if those are not included. My price, before adding QA and HD bucket, was $31,670. The QA and HD bucket added $950.
The M series cab is right at 100" in height, while the 5030 cab is 89". That made some difference to me as I have some clearance issues to deal with. The M is wider by about 6", but it really doesn't weigh very much more - I don't remember the exact numbers on that. It's also a longer tractor by about 9". I would think stability would be hard to predict as to which is better.
FYI, the 5030 handles cat II implements as well as cat I. It is rated to handle up to a 7ft rotary cutter at roughly 1100 lbs. I bought a Woods cutter (6ft), med duty as they call it, about 1100 lbs. It is a brute at cutting and the 5030 handles it fine.
Hope all this helps. They are both fine tractors - a tough choice, especially comparing the M5040 cab to the L5030 cab since the price is closer. I didn't need the M series size, but I sure did want that M cab seat - awesome comfort!

Thanks, The price is including the quick attach bucket but I am not sure about the heavy duty part. It is HST also which I have heard is not such a good idea in a 50hp tractor from another dealer. I did price the M5040 which would be about $1800 more. The problem is nobody around has a new 40 series with a cab so I can't see one in person unless I buy it and he trades another dealer about 300 miles away. The dealer does have a M7040 without the cab on site and a cab model which should be delivered Sept. 1.
Thanks

Also, would the M5949 be large enough to hay with should the need ever arise? Thanks.

I'm no haying expert, but I would say you could cut and rake with the M5040, but probably not bale. I would go for the M7040 at the minimum if you plan on that. Also, I would seek advice in the Ag Forum here from those that know the haying process much better than I do.
It's a shame there are not M cabs for you to drive. If you will be using the tractor in open areas, want/need the power, go for the M7040! One drive in that cab seat will sell you. It has a nice a/c system also. Just a great overall feel.
I would not worry about the HST in the L5030. Kubota has been making this tractor for many years with HST. You will not find many reports of problems.

I have a 5030HSTC on 200+ acres... it is exactly what I need. Worry not about the HST... it is strong and provides extreme maneuverability and precision control of movement of the tractor, even very heavily loaded. I believe you are considering the right size of tractor. Deciding factors would be cost, height/features of cab, HST transmission availability and turning radius/maneuverability of the compact. Depending on your size, you might find the cab of the 5030 too small... I thought it was for a while, then got the seat adjusted back and the steering wheel tilt set right and learned not to stand straight up... and now consider it "cozy". I have 500 hrs on the tractor... PM me if you want further details of my experiences.

My net is that I don't think you should make your decision without sitting in and driving, under work conditions, each of the tractors you are considering... it's a lot of money... and you will live with the decision for a lot of seat time...All the tractors mentioned are excellent.
