I saw the videos on "The Ultimate Tree Saw" and they looked really cool, D-7's taking down 12 inch trees and such. Very simple, robust equipment hanging off the front of the blade for sure.
To me those blades looked easy to make homemade and even a small farm tractor could handle them, there are videos on youtube of tractor and The Ultimate Tree Saw bolted to the front doing just that. Granted they were not taking on massive trees, but...
Like Overszed said, it takes patience. My neighbor cleared off his land, waited five years then took a smallish bucket loader and flipped out half rotted stumps to clear his land. He used a little time and the equipment he had to do it. It is when you want it done NOW that things cost a lot of money. Thankfully for me, the people I clear land for, they want it done now, so it keeps me busy.
