Land plain blade height help

Does your TC30 have any trouble handling this implement? I have a TC29 4x4 w/FEL and am considering buying or building one of these. I just don't know how wide a cut my tractor will handle.

It's not just the width, but the weight and how far the cutting edges are below the runners. A heavier unit will work better, but a person has to pay more attention than if it is light weight and you just lower it and go. Just like box blades, disks and about every other implement, it is not just the width that makes a difference, but how much the implement weighs and the conditions that it is being used in that can dictate what size the tractor needs to be.

I have a 5 foot LPGS that weighs about 800lbs. I would not want anything any bigger behind my 32HP 5000lb tractor. ;)

Spot on  lot more to it than just width (or length, just ask your wife)

Brian,
I just got back from my steel supplier and was thinking about adding either a hydraulically operated roller or a rear gate to my landplane. What are your thoughts?
Here is a picture of the landplane and this should be an easy add on to the rear section.

Steve, I personally would get better use of a roller, but I don't do the same type of work that you do either. Is it common for you to have the LPGS and the Gannon on the same job at the same time?

I would love a decent roller to pull behind mine, any ideas on an easy way to make one

In the past it has been a toss up but more often than not the lpgb has worked alone. Now that I am building up the laser machine controlled boxblade I expect to use it routinely. I am building a new heavy roller setup too which will be a 76" wide model and will weigh about 2300 lbs. So even with a dedicated roller I thought that having a roller on the landplane would be helpful for all the finish grading I will be doing. I already have the steel for these projects and just need a little hydraulics and bearings. The roller when raised up will add some weight to the plane too which might be worthwhile.

Most of the landplanes are similar enough that the design I have in mind might work for you. I will post pics of the build in the next month or so.

Just finished the next project, a set of fork lift forks that fit onto the bucket in 5 seconds flat and fully adjustable for width. Used them the last couple of days for heaps of stuff. Used the off cuts of the grader blades from building the land plain for the connection onto the bucket. Just open the bucket a bit slip on the fork and close the bucket again, done. They are solid as a rock when mounted and will take the full load of the hydraulics, picked up a huge hardwood tree with it today. I cut holes near the ends so I could tie there and use them like a crane.

There is almost no wear on the shoes or bottoms of the runners on my home made grader. I used 3/4 x 2" flat bar to make them. I would be willing to bet the overall weight of mine is equal to or greater than any others here, so if mine isn't wearing very fast, it most likely isn't going to be a problem. Granted the blades are 3/4" below the runners, but they still get dragged when down and on asphalt a lot as I turn around. I like the angled blades, as it makes it easier to crown a road just enough for water to run off.
