Rear Blade Land Pride GS2572 grader scraper woes: is this a warranty issue?

/ Land Pride GS2572 grader scraper woes: is this a warranty issue? #21
I have the Land Pride GS2584. Mine was purchased, new, in 2013. Yours is a 2020. There is a VERY DEFINITE difference in the size between my/your scarifier cross tube. My cross tube is - 4.5" x 4.5" with a tube wall thickness - 7/16". My scarifier shanks appear to be heavier duty than those you pictured. I looked at your shank pictures again. Mine are MUCH heavier than yours and do not have replaceable tips.

Just a guess - Land Pride might have reduced the specs on this piece of equipment over the intervening years.

OR - maybe the jump from the 72" unit to the 84" unit necessitated a larger cross tube, shanks, etc - ???

I primarily use mine on my driveway. Scarifiers down about two inches. I've pulled it up against material so hard ( basaltic lava bedrock ) that the entire LPGS will jump up off of the ground. The only damage so far - the bright orange paint has faded to a "nasty" looking pink/orange.

When I use it on the driveway - I'm always going less than two miles per hour. Less shock load on the 3-point system.

I've also used it to improve the one trail on my property. Grapple lowered to push down the sage brush - scarifiers at their lowest setting - 4WD - off I go at just around two miles per hour. Raise the LPGS every so often to get the uprooted sage brush untangled from the tines and the two rear blades. Works like a champ.

My tractor is - Kubota M6040 @ 62hp.

That's a terrible design, even worse when I looked up the price. This slotted box beam for the scarifiers belongs on $600 chinesium box blades, to be treated "gently".

If they give you your money back, look into the Woods BSS72P. Scarifiers are behind the box section on mine, so they do not weaken it. You will probably have a harder time tearing them out (although your ground does not look kind :)

I have a 6' Befco that's similar in weight as a 15 series Land Pride. I have abused the heck out of it. I'm always using the rippers at their lowest setting and when really needing to rip up the driveway the top link shortened right up. Since it's lighter in weight and I wanted to use the rippers to dig up ice in the winter time I put two 18" log across it. My Kubota will lift it but now the rear tires show there's real weight (vs the 800 lbs before). That was about 5 years ago and those logs have never come off. When I hit ledge it either stops my tractor dead or the GS jumps up and over it. The holes are worn but there's not even the slightest sign of fatigue from over stress.

I would love to know if LP is going to replace this as it's clearly defective. If not I would repair and beef it up myself (or if you can't weld hire a welder. First would be to cut holes in the side plates to get at the internal metal used to beef up behind the shank. Get what's in there out and replace it with new metal. Secondly weld a heavy gauge (at least 1/2") "L" angle behind it. I would also make a plate so I could weld the rear of the mounts for the lower 3pt arms to the "L" angle. I might even run some extra bracing. The one good thing about a GS is that it's not high tech and extra steel means extra weight.

That better be covered under warranty and if it isn't, I may rethink the rbt4096 scraper blade I just ordered.

I have a locally made heavy duty 7' box blade that I scarify very rocky soil with and it never even occurred to me that this could happen to a bb. Mine looks stout so I don't worry, I wouldn't have worried had I bought a land pride anything either, I would be very pee oed if this had happened to me.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the specs. The 72" and 84" both are 4" x 4" with 5/16" "reinforced heavy wall tubing". So if you are certain about your specs then Land Pride indeed cut corners. Kubota bean counters might have been involved.

Guys thanks for all the replies. I dropped it off at my Kubota/Land Pride dealer last Tuesday. We looked at the Land Pride box blades and they have the same design. Salesman who I also think is the GM said my implement clearly wasn't abused. He is going to have a Land Pride service rep look at it. When we looked at it closer we could see the reinforcement bar inside the tube. Looked to be about the thickness of a file and was totally deformed.

I'll report back after I hear from them.

I think the Land Pride design engineers think of sand & organic soil when they design the scarifier setup. Yes - I specifically went out and measured the cross bar on mine before post#21. Dropped a scarifier shank so I could measure wall thickness. Probably part of the reason I've not damaged mine yet - I go miserably slow. First pass is fairly shallow - second pass is deeper, if necessary.

I think a whole lot of us are breathing easier. Knowing that Kubota is taking your situation seriously.

Thanks for the detailed info. At least my dealer is taking this seriously. We shall see about Land Pride.

I still believe if they don't replace it, it will be very embarrassing for them. There is more than enough posted here on this for LP to feel it. I am with some other not impressed with the design.
