Land Pride Rotary Cutter Paint Peeling and Rust

Also just an FYI unless you clean the deck religiously after each use, the paint on it will eventually all disappear as grass clippings etc mulch down and compost.

I realize it's not a BMW or a Corvette and I'm not suggesting it gets a buff and wax every time I use it.

My question was really centered on is this typical that they come "new" from the factory with the paint peeling off. Is this a typical Land Pride paint issue? I've never owned their equipment before.

I know equipment gets scars and dings and and I can deal with that when I'm operating (not abusing) and maintaining it. Just one example, I have a 14 year old ATV and the paint is holding on the frame underneath with plenty of use and scratches and scars. I also don't remember any of the gear I grew up operating at the family cabin and farm just sloughing paint from sitting outside... even when it was years old (steel utility trailers, commercial mowers, snow blowers, lawn tractors, ATVs.) They had their share of scratches and surface rust, but the paint was not peeling off when new or even when old.

I don't think they should come from the factory this way and forgive me if I don't want to pull out the sanding and painting equipment and spend my time that could go toward other projects on a brand new, $2,000, piece of equipment. If that's ****... so be it. I think this is indicative of a larger problem with the paint on this unit and Land Pride seems to agree so far. I was just wondering if folks here have noticed a more widespread experience with Land Pride painting. According to Land Pride, it's not a widespread issue.

I appreciate some of the varying (constructive) opinions... but I just don't agree with "Put the dang thang on the tractor and run it and forget about it."

I would take the opinions with a grain of salt, no one is trying to offend you. What the majority of members are saying is that it's kind of an is what it is situation. It's not just Land Pride, implements aren't handled with white cotton gloves as they are expected to be put to work not displayed for show, but don't take that the wrong way. If it was delivered to you with bent steel, dents or a keyed painted job, I'd stand behind you 100%. The pics you posted honestly don't look bad at all and are perfectly normal from what I can see. Like I said I am very picky when it comes to things, but some things I understand. If the paint started to flake off in sheets I say absolutely make a stink with LP. If it's just the small imperfections which are more than likely from shipping etc I personally would hook it up to the 3pt hitch and have some fun with it.

I have several pieces of Land Pride equipment. They all came in good shape. Two pieces - disk harrow & rear blade - had places where it was evident that implements rubbed together in shipment. A little sand paper and some orange spray paint took care of the situation. Use and sitting out in the wx causes unpainted surfaces to rust - that's just the way it is.

If your looking for 1950,s type workmanship today you might as well forget it.Being a old fart and somewhat little **** myself it,s very sad we have lost the art of doing a good job and doing things correct.I think we can blame ourselves somewhat for wanting cheaper prices and better value as in wal-mart-China products.

A lot of people just don't understand the cost of a good paint job. 20 % of any new car or truck price is just paint. 20 K car 4 K for paint. Dont expect a great paint job on a $ 2000.00 dollar attachment the numbers are just not there.

Yes, that is how the come new from the factory. Is not just Landpride, everybody's stuff will have blemishes. They probably get some blemishes in the factory, while being loaded for delivery, in transit, being unloaded, sitting on the dealers lot, and getting delivered to the customer. When you are dealing with equipment people will hook a chain around anything to tie it down on lift it. Those little scratches you have are not a big deal. The first time you use it on some rough ground it is going to look waaaayyyyyy worse than that. Get a can of spray paint and touch it up.

If you had a good Dealer he would have touch this up before coming out to the farm with it. But today they just don't give a shXX. Land Pride is a geat company.

We have literal more implements than I can remember from various manufacturers and our renters leave a lot of equipment in our barn, Case, John Deere, Land Pride, Woods, Rhino, Howse, King Kutter, LMC, Massey Ferguson, some really old and some less than a year. The paint quality on our Land Pride is as good as any and better than several. I honestly didn't see widespread paint issues with yours, but if it bothers you it won't hurt to have them look at it; hard to tell from just a couple of pictures. Of our five pieces of LP, two cutters, tiller and two box scrapers, I am happy with the quality. I take good care of my equipment, keep it under cover, but I don't remember ever touching up paint on any of it; maybe someday.

My tractor has some touch up paint on it when I received it. I see implements, small trailers and tractors rolling down I20 all the time in various colors. The implements and trailers are stacked pretty efficiently but maybe not so swell to prevent cosmetic scratches. My brush cutter has rust holes the size of ... Actually I do not know what size as I installed 11 or 10 gauge patches on it 12-16" wide the length of the cutter deck. The 1/4" and 3/8" thick metal frame materials are rusty also but they are so thick that they will not rust away like the sheet metal. If I could keep the tractor and implements under cover I suspect the brush cutter would not have rusted out in 14 years. Or maybe if I had pressure washed the cutter after every use under the deck it would have done better.
