Like both these mowers, but havent seen the first chioce in person, has anyone purchased a first choice. I like the idea of powder coated paint and they are made similar to landpride
and the decks are the same thickness, however the top parts of the first choice appear to be smaller metal than the landpride. I found a hardly used landpride 2572 rd (still has all paint ect)for $1400.00 This is the heavy duty rear discharge 6' The first choice is 1099.00 new (on internet).....any suggestions?

BeeKeeper,
Ignore Machinedoc1, he is a plant who claims to have bought every imaginable implement of every brand that SweetTractors sells. Every post he makes spouts the great service and price of same. Wait for a response from some of the other members, I think someone else bought a first choice mower. I have a Rhino mower on mine so I can't help on the first choice.

I just purchased a First Choice Finish Mower.... I bought mine from the Hoye Bros, Stan & Walley.. Picked mine up in Villisca, IA last Saturday...Haven't used it yet as we got 8.5 inches of Snow on Sunday the day after I bought it... Most of it is gone now and will be 60 degrees today, so I plan to put it on my tractor this afternoon..Hopefully winter is now over in Nebraska.!!!!

This company was started by a fellow who used to be with King Kutter, decided he could do it himself and designed a unit that has specific improvements he wanted...rear discharge only, better gearbox etc..

Originally was going to go with the 6ft but decided I had too many narrow clearances between trees and some uncut areas and I went with the 5 Ft... also will allow me to move around a bit easier in my second garage for storage etc...

I have an Iseki so I went with a blue one, First Choice I think maybe one of the few makers to offer this color option. Most are Red, Yellow or Orange..... I have another post on this so I do not want to repeat much but I did alot of research on finish mowers and looked personally at many of them or at pictures such as King Kutter, Woods, Caroni, Sovema, LandPride... I talked to several dealers that carry First Choice, I did not call Sweettractors by the way, and they were very impressed with them for the price... I paid $850.00, but again I picked it up myself....

I assembled it from the crate...Every part, nut, bolt etc. was there in the crate and I must say I am impressed with the quality of construction...all welds are complete and smooth, every part was completely painted, all decals are straight and every zirc fitting lines up with the access holes. This unit is every bit as heavy duty as the Landpride (which I would have bought had I not found this), maybe more so on some parts...

I could not believe the quality of paint job on this mower... I dropped several tools on it as I was tightening bolts and bumped it etc. and not a scratch or chip...not even a mark....the parts are heavy very guage metal...the deck is 3/16...

I especially like the system they use for the belt tightening...the gearbox is positioned on a sliding bolt carriage platform and then has a bolt and nut tensioner which allows you to easily tighten both belts in one step and then in a hands off process, batten down four bolts to secure the position.... ...

All of the holes lined up perfectly.....nothing was out of tolerance in the assembly process.

Here are my only comments on improvements.. They need some modification on the instructions booklet. It was obviously printed in Italy where the unit was manufactured as several words were misspelled or improper grammar was used. Not a big deal, but a small detail that should be fixed. Also, on several steps they could of broken down the process a little more by adding a page or two of diagrams or steps and making them bigger...my eye's don't see the detail as good as they used to...Also, several diagrams could have been a bit more detailed so as there is no confusion on the position of the top support pieces.. nothing that I could not figure out, it just would have made it a real no brainer on assembly... If these are the only issues with this implement, which I believe it will be, I am very happy...

I went with Mobil 1 75W-90W gear oil on the gearbox transmission and Mobil 1 grease for the pully bearings and wheel assembly.

If I get a chance, I will post a picture or two....

We purchased the landpride as the front part of deck is considerably heavier. Both have 3/16 decking but the Landride has 7/16 on the front end. After looking at the first choice the landpride is better built. But if I were buying a new one I might purchase the first choice, due to the differance in price. But since the used landride looked like new and I go it for $300.00 more it was the better deal. The first choice is a good mower, better than most others as its deck also floats, and if both were new might be the best buy. Just one guys opinion!!!!

Ya know I hate to say this but the most expensive product is usually the best hands down. I am sure that first choice builds fine equipment but I doubt it is in the same catagory w/Woods, Landpride. The things prone to failure on a finish cut mower are the wheel mounts, if the brackets are poorly made it will always give problems when it get's some age on it from lowering it as it strikes the ground w/the mowers weight behind it. Secondly, the bearings must be of good size and quality and the ability to hold greese. Hope this helps.

Thanks Surge
If I could have purchased the first choice for what you did I would have done so. However locally the dealer wanted $1250 (somerset ky) and sweet tractors wanted 1099 plus shipping which mad it 1200. Thats why I got the landpride for $1400.00 although it is used, it only was used 5 times last fall and the blades are still black and look new. But would love that powder coated paint....thought long and hard......Thanks

I will agree with you, however I dont think woods are nearly the mower they use to be. They are suppose to have a new model outh this year which is improved but they are a notch behind landpride and first choice for that matter. At the National Farm Machinery show in Louisville I looked everything over good and they were in the bracke that SHOULD have sold for much less like King Cutter, Farm king also ahd a good mower. Bush hog looked good but only had a 30 hp gear box. It comes down to first choice ar landpride....for the money if you cant find a used landpride the first choice is probably the best deal! Rick

Beekeeper,
I own the landpride rcr2572. This is one heavy-duty machine. I routinely cut 2 and 3 inch weed trees with no problem. (NH TC40D) You will pay for the name, but I now believe it was worth it. I don't know about the first choice but I can recommend the 2572. good luck!

pay attention to the model, no matter the name brand. they all have different models of the same size. some are more heavily built and thus they will cost more. check out the specs. of each unit. sometimes less expensive is not less expensive.
