Lane Shark Alternative?

@photoneffect - Realizing now that my #1 question above is probably a dumb question because you mention running the unit with the backhoe on the tractor.

Would still love to hear about #2 and #3, though.

Thanks!

@cstamm81 - I saw that one, too, but figured for my relatively low-duty needs, I'd save the $2K in the difference. That one does look real nice, too!

@photoneffect - Thanks for all the info. I figured that between the backhoe itself, swinging the boom, and my loaded tires, I'd be fine, but the guy on the phone was pretty adamant. I still think I'd be fine, and since I'd be using this along the fence line with no obstructions on one side, I could even put the backhoe far out and down if I wanted to. I'm guessing that as their company has grown, they've had to stop separating a B2650 with a backhoe and loaded tires from a regular B2650 for liability reasons.

Three separate questions if you don't mind:

1. You were running the LS3 off your tractor pump, not a separate PTO pump? So 5ish GPM and the performance was fine?
2. Did you trim in the vertical position along any fence lines? One of the things I'm worried about is flinging stuff downward into my fence and breaking it. Sickle bar has a definite advantage there.
3. How did you plumb your unit? I'm thinking of running the outlet of my third function, which is power beyond, to a motor spool valve, with two returns to tank (one from the valve, one from the motor) and using the power beyond on the motor spool valve to power everything else that's currently downstream from my third function.

Again, thanks!

1. Yes, off the tractor. No issues other than the slow down when raising the loader.

2. Yes I used it on the vertical position frequently as I have over a mile of tree line. It doesn’t throw anything down. If you cut a branch and it falls on the fence I guess that would do it. Doubt you’d be cutting anything thick enough to do that, though, unless it’s a delicate fence.

3. You’re super overcomplicating it. You use your existing third function feed and then plumb a single return line from the LS to the sump. You have two whips from the LS to the existing third function feed coupler and then one to the dedicated return line coupler. The switch you buy from them will wire into the power beyond. There’s at least one install video from LS showing how to do it. The only annoying thing is they don’t provide a kit for the B2650. But all that means is they don’t have precut lines. You can get lines made and you’re good. If I were you I’d probably buy the kit for the L2501 or something and then hope the lengths are good. Will save you some time.

@photoneffect - Thanks a TON!

For reference for anyone else who might read this while mentally planning things out, here are my reasons for overcomplicating the plumbing:

1. I want to run a motor valve that can reverse directions so I can also use it with a hydraulic auger. From watching the video, it seems the LS setup is basically just an on/off valve for one pressure line.
2. To maximize flow, I want the motor valve (with a direct-to-sump return for the non-pressurized work port) to be the first thing after my loader valve and want to use the largest reasonable lines.
3. Having separate motor ports up front will leave my third function fully functional for for something else, so if I ever needed to run something with a motor and power angle, for example, I could.

I'm still planning to make this valve electronic like the LS one so that I can wire it into the seat safety switch just like they do.

There’s a home built version floating around home that was made from an old farm all Cub belly mower with and orbit mower and a large pulley

A PTO-driven flail like this. Eliminate the flow issue. Not sure if they make one small enough: stuffing weight out away from the tractor becomes a bit precarious.

I have two tractors and three mowers (and then I have a riding lawn mower), yet I can't use any of it on about 500' of my fence line: once section I'm scheming on ways to get my smaller tractor or even my riding lawn mower to; it's down a tight corner that doesn't allow enough room to turn around as there's a HUGE ditch to the outer sides- I either make a portable bridge or I "air drop" my lawnmower over my fence (using my Kioti)! One way or another one finds a way... Good luck!

Are you sure that isn't driven off the rear remote? It looks like just a cover on the PTO.

EDIT: I went to their website and appears the PTO shaft just wasn't connected in that picture.
