Is this kid TBN material or what?

One can take a rake and spread the tailings. Or one can take the ATV and an attachment........... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here he's preparing the non climb for terminating.

We used one of my friction grips for stretching. It sure beats using boards and bolts. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Fencing always looks better when someone else is doing the work.......Must be nice to dig post holes and not unearth /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif rocks on every turn of the shovel. Great pics and narration once again Harv-Thanks from Eastern Conn. !!!

Around here we'd like to be able to dig in dirt. I don't know if you noticed those large chunks of black clay. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Here's a picture of Brandon this morning. I got there just before he left for school to make sure all my ties were in and the ends were tight etc.

Open

Please note the gate goes one hundred and eighty degrees flat with the fence. It only opens in towards the animals. There are a couple reasons for this. First of course is if the gate is unlocked by a mischevious horse or left that way by a human half asleep at the wheel the animal has to pull the gate into themself and then walk around it. Second, this is an area where vehicles are parked. In fact that nice metal shop was put in because Brandon and his dad, recently retired, are doing vehicle detailing.

Can you imagine dad's stomach if that gate swung open into a customer's too cool car or truck?

One of the many things that I do that drive customers totally up a wall is I won't accept that a gate is just a gate. They ain't. Each one has certain needs that need to be considered, not ust their action but also where they're placed.

rant over, go look at Brandon /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Every job I do has it's own taste or feel. This while a small one was especially nice.

Might be because I've know the parents for years and years. But I suspect that it'll be because Brandon and his bud confirmed my suspicions about the next generation being a great one.

Harv, do you have any more pictures of your friction grips?
Is it your on invention? I have been looking for something like that but have not found anything.

I've seen so many useless young people lately, it's great to see someone like Brandon doing great things. That's really a nice job thanks to the two of you. John

I've tried two different designs that I've came up with.

One used here is made from half inch schedule eighty pipe.

The concept is two parallel uprights about a half inch apart for the wire to pass through. At the top and bottom are heavy plates. The uprights are welded to these. They are slotted for another piece of pipe to have about an inch of play each way. That piece of pipe has a piece of pipe parallel to it with about an inch spacing between them.

The wire is fed between the two fixed up rights and the pivotable (is that a word?) pair of uprights. With about six inches of the wire out the other side a rod is placed in a slot on top of the pivoting section. That allows one to wrap the wire against itself. It works great. But I only use it for short pulls because there's so much flex in the pipe.

The other one is made from one inch bar stock and is heavy. It's a little harder to load but still a lot easier than those darn bolts and boards.

It's concept is the wire is pulled through two parallel uprights, wrapped around a floating upright, and the tail fed back through the original parallel uprights. It's like a web belt buckle. The more tension one puts on it the tighter it gets.

It's just heavy and awkward. But it's the kitty's litter when it comes to long pulls.

Give me a call since you're only one lake away, 442 3987 and you can check them out.
