Okay resurrecting this thread after finally putting a little video together to show how bright the 27W Tuff lights are in practice. My BIL as well as a few others have been asking and it is pretty hard to answer just how bright they are in words. So check this youtube video I posted if you care: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1lydv9fRsA

I am very happy with the mounting... two facing forward for FEL work and general maneuvering. Two facing rear for the BH. I can pivot them so all four face in one direction but two lights in both directions is plenty for my needs. I really don't work much at night... just want some good lights during the evening and getting home (a couple hundred yards) :D

It's been 2.5+ years since install so I thought I would post an update especially for those wondering about durability of adhesive bond. Here are a couple pics I just took. The lights and wiring loom have been subjected to branches, weather, etc. and no failures as expected. Decided to put a decal on the ROPS as I have had many people ask 'how i did that'.

Thanks for the update.

Sure... still going strong. Love the install and the lights. No failures and I have bashed them around a bit with low hanging fir branches. I am glad I mounted the lights under the ROPS even though there isn't much clearance for my head when using the BH. I'm 6'2'' and they are close but don't get in the way.

If you like the Click Bond solution for mounting things on your tractor, see my other threads or You Tube videos for Chain (ammo) Box install and Fire Extinguisher install.

If you can't find them and are interested, I will post the links.

What are people using to switch the rops work lights? I have the Kubota rear light installed by the dealer on my GL4740. It gets power whenever the ignition switch is in the on position, but there is an additional switch on the light itself so it’s not always on with the ignition.

The new LED lights that I purchased (not yet installed) don’t have their own switch, so they would be always on with the ignition if I hook them up the same as the existing work light.

I’ve looked for an outdoor-rated switch to mount on the rops (with zip ties, or something else not requiring drilling). Haven’t found anything yet.

Thoughts?

If you go back to post 11-14 it shows a few pics. I added an auxiliary fuse panel, relay and a couple of switches in the dash for forward/rear facing light control.

I added a switch on my dash as well so they're not on needlessly. As dragoneggs said already put in a inline fuse to protect yourself.

Did the same... added an aux fuse box & ordered bezels & switches for the dash for all my accessories..

The electrical can be a bit intimidating if you haven't done it before, but it is pretty simple once you get into it. Lots of helpful info on YouTube, etc to give you the confidence. Just make good solid and waterproof connections to save yourself the agony of intermittent issues. I really like to use heat shrink tubing vs. electrical tape. Easy and makes for a clean professional install.

Good advice. Don’t be in a rush. Take your time and do it right.

I’ve learned my lesson years ago and paid for it many times over in troubleshooting rushed jobs by myself as well as others.

I need the lights for my 3038e only occasionally - usually for plowing snow at night. I have to get ahead of a heavy snow because my CUT with bucket and blade can't easily do more than 6 inches at a time... Long gravel drive - one full mile through a forest. So I mounted lights on a board and bungeed it to the top of the ROPS - 2 forward lights and one back. It plugs neatly into the empty aux plug on the tractor and is activated with the existing switch. Works like a champ. And I can take it off easily when not needed because I do a lot of work in my forest and the limbs will knock off anything on the ROPS, under it or over it. A simple and cheap solution for me.

one thing i learned the hard way wiring up some lights this week.. All wire connectors are not the same, i mistakenly started out wiring stuff up but ran out of connectors. The new connectors didnt work with the old connectors, so i had to cut and redo some of my connection with the new connectors.. Lesson learned..

I did the same to my JD 855. Mounted the LED's to inside the ROPS, but used stainless hose clamps. Hold just fine. Power is direct from battery, so not relying on key being in/on. Need to add one pointed backward and switched separate, still...

I've taken to use magnets to mount just about everything now.
That way I don't have roof leaks and if I snag something on a limb it simply dangles.
Also allows for re positioning lights for best effect.

I've become a bigger fan of magnets myself. Especially those powerful Magswitch ones that a quarter turn activates/deactivates. I keep slowly adding metal and woodworking clamps to my stable.
