Let\'s talk about BH buckets

I'll start, I want a 24" or 30" (maybe thats to big)with a flat blade (no teeth) to fit a BX23. A ditch bucket for lack of a better term.

OK, your turn, where can I get one? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

DO what I do Make a top mounting plate that fits the bucket pivots and mkae the side plates like you like them. Then tack in some braces to old them the desired width apart then tack the back on atthe top of the bucket. Lay a pipe in the floor and uncurl the bucket onto it. and weld it up as you go. Ive made fullsized backhoe buckets and Up to 1 yard excavator buckets this way. To make up for the width make it a little shallowr than the regulate bucket and dont go over 36 inches wide. What causes structural problems in a clean out bucket or boom is someone trying to dig hard with one side of the bucket. Like stumps and such.

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

That sounds like a real neat way to bend the metal. Since I do not weld I will have to see if my fabricator can do that. I was kinda hoping I could just buy one but deep down I knew it was fabricator time again. Probably better that way anyway so I can get exactly what I want.

Any pictures?

Thanks for the tip.

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

A 24" inch bucket works well on the BX as long as you don't use for digging stumps, prying rocks, etc. I bought a 24" bucket from fellow TBN member Stef who upgraded to a B3030 and no longer had the need for a 24" bucket for his BX23. The bucket has no teeth - just straight edge. It works really well for putting down a nice flat bottom or for moving a lot of soil (if the soil is relatively loose). Based on my experience I don't think I would go over 24" in width. Take a close look at the Kubota bucket that came with the tractor and just imagine it widened out to 24" and that is what you should build. I have a bunch of pics of my 24" mounted on the tractor but I can't find them at the moment. If I get the bucket mounted back on the tractor this weekend I will take some more and post them.

As far as I know this would be a custom job - I have not found anybody who makes custom buckets for BX's. Makes me think I should get my welder going and start making a few....

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

There is a shop that manufacturers buckets for backhoes about 1/2 hour from me. I am not certain, but I believe that they might be making them for Woods. I can take some pictures of the standard bucket and show them what you want and get a price for you. I know that it would be less expensive the more that they make, but I am not ready to get into the bucket business. Anyone else out there that might want one? The other thing to consider is the cost of shipping. My guess is that they could go by UPS or common carrier, but they would probably be considered over sized and have a surcharge.

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

Jim,

Your bucket is where I got the idea from, thanks for costing me more money /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I've wanted one since I first saw it in another post.

I will print the pictures and see if the facbricator can whip me one up.

Thanks

Junk,

Thanks. I have to move to where you are. You have access to a lot of cool stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was hoping to not have to go the fabrication route, just being lazy, and just buy one but like you said shipping may be expensive.

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

I think the easiest way to explain to a fabricator what you want would be to show him the existing bucket from the BX and tell him you want a stretched version. Making the bucket much deeper or taller would mean some re-engineering of the bucket geometry in order the to clear the rest of the hoe assembly when it is folded up etc. The other thing I would ask for is a cutting edge made from AR400 or one of the other steel alloys that is wear resistant. I have put enough hours on my bucket to wear the cutting edge round and the corners of the cutting edge are also neatly rounded off. I plan on getting the 24" bucket mounted back on the hoe this weekend so I will take some more pics for you. If you want the full resolution pics I can forward those to you thru email or something if you want to print them out.

Re: Let\'s talk about BH buckets

I'd love to get a trapezoidal BH bucket with a couple of ripper teeth on the back strickly for stump ripping.
