Around here a lot of people use “chips” to top it off. It’s a little bigger than pea gravel but not much. It doesn’t pack that well but does ok and is much cleaner.

It took a couple years for speed bumps to develop on my driveway. FINALLY - folks slowed down. After 40 years the speed bumps are still there.

They gripe & grouse but they DO slow down.

I'm out of touch with the price of asphalt by 12 years, but sometimes a good road contractor needs a quick 1 day fill in job and can surprise you with a price just to keep a crew busy.
