Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

I just talked to Agrisupply and asked if I could order a Caroni flail with the P rotor. The gal I spoke with said "no". She said they only sell Caroni's with the B rotor and do not accept special orders.

Assuming I was told correctly, does anyone know how to order a Caroni with the P rotor?

Joseph

If they are the dealer, they should have no trouble bringing in the mower you want. Why go to the trouble of changing all the blades and hoping you might get 1/2 price for the new take offs. If they still don't won't bring in what you want talk to Caroni and tell them they lost a sale because the dealer wouldn't order the mower you wanted.

One of the gents here sent me the name and email address for someone at Agrisupply that can help me if I decide to order a Caroni with the P rotor.

Jeff, Tractor Tools Direct sells Caroni flail mowers and if I remember correctly they show the P rotor on their website. I don't know how to show a link to them, really lucky to be able to find TBN with coaching. :D

From what I can tell, it looks like the P rotor is pretty much the B rotor but with scoop/hammers rather than clevis/blades.

Maybe not. The TM1900 P rotor has attachment points for 28 things. The B rotor has 56 attachment points.

All I see on their website is the Del Morino brand for ~$1,000 more than a Caroni.

No. Both have 28 attachment points. The P rotor has 28 scoop knives mounted. The B rotor has 28 clevises with two knives mounted on each so a total of 56 knives.

I cannot tell from the Caroni catalog photos of the B and P rotors if there are any differences at all. I suspect not.

It's a done deal. Just placed my order for a TM1900BSC from AgriSupply. Even with a $608 shipping charge to WA  this is still the best option. "No extra charge" for drop gate delivery.

I plan to use the OEM blades if the neighbors want me to mow their overgrown pastures and finish blades on our own place as I described a few posts ago. To make blade swapping less painful I'm thinking of using a 3/8 inch clevis pin (instead of a bolt) and not a cotter pin but the same kind of pin that I use on my 3-point. You just push those pins in and they stay in place. What are those called?

BTW, some pacific northwest ag shops are selling AgriEase mowers. They are simply a rebranded TM1900BSC. Asking price is in the $4,000 range.

You cannot use the simple clip pins or standard clevises to hold flail blades in place. For starters they are not nearly strong enough as they are mild steel rather than the specified grade ?5 or 8 bolts. Also, mowing will knock those pins out when you run over a stick or brush or even a clump of earth. I wouldn't trust any clip type pin or even the type that splits and bends. Use hardened bolts with locknuts.
