I think the benefits of a double axle are multiplied if you will be using it on longer trips. Sure you can use a single axle for trips across town, or occasional 1 hour hauls, even if it doesn't track well or if it's pushing you around. But if you get into longer trips, the security and ease of towing with a double axle really shines.

I can tell you after being in the trailer business you can't go wrong with a 16' tandem axle trailer. In 10 years it will sell for what you pay today.

14' trailers are a different story. 16' just seems to be the perfect size for 75% of the buyers.

I like welding and I will be welding on the new trailer.
It will sit in my 2nd driveway, I will have to get it into my garage where the welder is, that means
maneuvering around with my John Deere garden tractor.
A tandem will be much harder to finagle into the garage stall than a single axle.

I have a 14' tandem car hauler that I use for hauling water to my house. The 14' works out great for water, but it is just to short to haul the tractor with any attachments. The box blade usually hangs off the back. I bought it used from a cousin, so the length is what I got. When I one day get a new truck I will buy a 16' deckover with tandem 7000 pound axles.

You will never regret getting tandem axle, but there is a good chance you will always question yourself if you buy the single axle. Way smoother pulling whether loaded or empty, as the tandem axles walk on bumps. When one axle hits a hole the other axle is usually still on the flat, so the trailer moves down half the distance.

You should have no problem moving the tandem with your quad if the ground is reasonably flat. We do it all the time here even on hills but I don't recommend the hill thing to others.

Well peeps, I ordered my trailer today.
I went with a 78 inch wide buy 14 foot long, single axle.
It was the better choice for my needs.
I ordered a ton of options on it, should be done in a month?
