Letting the wife drive the tractor

My wife does NOT want to learn to operate my 3410 GST, because "then you'll try to foist all the mowing chores on me, and I've enough to do - you start cooking, cleaning the house and buying groceries, and then we can talk about my learning tractor etiquette" (??? tractor etiquette, at any rate, I haven't brought up the topic again).

LOL, I recall early in our marriage, when I had a JD "M" tractor at parent's house, we often had to pull it to start it as the battery would be dead.

I'd hook my pickup via a tow rope to the tractor, put wife in the truck, and have her pull me around the yard to get it going.

One time (I didn't know Dad had needed a coil wire and REMOVED the one from the JD for his pickup), wife pulled me around and around and around. She was used to stopping when the tractor started, and since it didn't she just kept driving!

No amount of my arm waving and yelling could get her to stop. She was on a mission, just looking forward to where she was going.

We must have circled the 1 acre yard four times before she finally stopped to see what was wrong.....

It's funny to me now...................

Good luck as it seems you won't have to much competition for tractor time.

My wife has a lot more seat time on our old John Deere than I do, but so far, we are about even on the new B7800 Kubota.
My only complaint regarding her use of the tractors is when she hits me late at night, or right before I leave for work at 5:15 am with "honey, I want to do a little bushhogging, boxbladeing, etc. Can you hook up the tractor before you leave?" Hooking up 3ph equipment is the one thing she just does not seem to be able to master.

Don't have any pictures, maybe if we ever get any snow here so that I can try out the snowblower I will take a picture of the Kubota covered in snow. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

After all it's just as much hers as is it is mine is true.......we BOTH are working to pay for my toys.
But she will NOT drive my TC18 whatsoever. Once I did a "stupid human trick" of not setting the stand down on my loader before unhooking it. Once the loader arms set down on the front tires, I was in a really hard spot now without help. I waited til she pulled in from work and "told" her ( forcibly from what she told me later) that she would have to get on the tractor and move it forward as I lifted the arms up off the tires. She was scared to death that she would hurt my tractor more than she was afraid she'd pin me somewhere.
She hasn't been on it since, except for the time that I repeated that same "stupid human trick" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Purchasing our rural property and in turn our tractor has been one of the most fun things we've done in 15 years of marriage. my wife is learning to operate the tractor and enjoys her "seat time". It was my wife who said "make sure you buy a big enough tractor" when we were looking to upgrade from the YM 1500.

This past weekend was the time to take our annual Christmas picture and we both agreed we should take the photo at the "farm". Now, I swear, this was her idea...she says "let's take the picture with the tractor...No kidding...not my idea!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A co-worker and his wife were moving cross country in two vehicles, she in the lead and him following. He broke down and she kept going until the State Police stopped her two states away! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
