Any fence can be "Maintenance free" if you have the right animal to feed availability ratio right :D

yes...and no

Ive had, and seen, real wooden fences without any animals, they still needed repainting to look nice.

The boards wern't eaten, but needed upkeep

The "Maintiance Free" was a toung in cheek thing, for if you ever had a fence before "then YOU know 'Maintiance free' "

If you haven't already put your posts in, I've found that box-blading the fence line before starting any work, to level it until you're happy, works well. You don't necessarily have to go crazy with it, just dragging along the line 2 or 3 times will smooth it out some (if it wasn't already smooth). Of course the grass will be removed, but hey, it'll grow back :)

I didn't do that when installing my first 450' ... & I think it looks herky-jerky ... transitions from high to low & back are too extreme / severe.

I did do it on the remaining 865', & the fence's up / down curves are much smoother there. Of course I'm also allowing the fence wire to come off the ground more, up to about 4" max ... whereas in the beginning I was nailing the fence wire at precisely 1" above the ground, come h3ll or high water
