Our mini choker gets worked again today. The tow machine was not worn out either. :giggle:

One issue I have with cable chokers is that there is usually too much slack [or length] remaining after choking the log and after winching in they will still drag; whereas a chain choker can be shortened up to the log butt and the winch will then lift the log off the ground for easier skidding.
This assumes that you are not skidding very large logs [30 inch +diameter] and are using an arch of some kind.

You can buy them in different lengths.

I don't where you are from but most hard woodstore have some if not any rigging and wire rope specialists like Sling Choker or store like tooltown, Acklands Grainger or princess auto, have chains for sale they cut it to length and buy the hooks separately.

Light weight choker chains work GREAT! Are easy to store and not expensive so we're sticking with them.

I see no sense in buying a bunch of wire rope chokers in different lengths, when I can just use a choker chain, that can easily be used in any of those same lengths, plus it's just so much easier to carry around.

Although I agree with this statement I know that cable chokers have their place for certain applications.

I think using them on the big wood out west is more likely.
sure but not only that, I find cable less prone to slide off the bark when skidding multiple logs, less prone to unhook and easier to slide under heavy logs then chains.
