OK, another post on liquid in tires ... sorry. Anyway, I've always operated tractors with the tires filled. I recently traded up to the 4320 and the dealer wanted to charge me too much to put calcium in the tires. So, I operated the tractor for about a month without liquid, then last Friday I had them filled with Rimguard.

It was unbelievable how much difference it really makes having the liquid in the tires. I have a heavy grapple rake on the front and the liquid makes a very noticeable difference in the stability of the tractor.

I know everybody stresses the importance of ballast, but going from no liquid in tires to liquid in tires really validates this advice. So, if you're debating about whether to do this ... you should.

Any idea how much volume and weight you added of the RimGuard?

Expensive compared to calcium chloride?

Rayder,

Amen; and when you especially think of the trend and pressure for the manufacturers to reduce cost (and weight) you can understand how this has become even more critical! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have not been able to find anyone in TX that carries Rimguard. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

In response to the question about cost, it actually turned out to be CHEAPER than calcium. I was quoted $42 per tire to buy tubes for them, so I saved $84 by not going the calcium route. The Rimguard cost me $3 per gallon, plus a $75 charge to come to my house and pump it (it took him about 45 minutes on site, plus 1/2 hour drive time).

Regarding the weight, according to Rimguard's website, this stuff weighs around 10.7 pounds per gallon. My 4320 took 74 gallons total (R1s) for the back tires so that comes to around 800 lbs of additional weight in the rear. There is some discrepancy on how much liquid my 13.6 28's take ... the dealer said 37 gallons per tire, but Rimguard's site says 43 gallons per tire. Don't know which is correct.

As for the comment about finding this stuff, it was difficult for me to find. Many places had never heard of Rimguard. I finally called a tire store chain (from a suggestion I got on this list) and they did some research and found that one of their stores 30 miles away carried it. Fortunately, one of the employees lived close to the other store and he drove the tanker home one day and filled it up with Rimguard. It all comes down to supply and demand, and not very many people seem to know about it at least where I live.

If you are going to put liquid in your tire check out this new product. Stay away from calcium it will eat the rims right off the tractor.

Thanks for the link. I went there, but can't tell what the cost is, or if there are any dealers in my area (western, Illinois).

Do you have any more information?

I have been trying to get my dealer to get Rimgaurd for me to fill my R4's on my 4410. Not even the tire tractor guy around here had heard of it. Why is this product marketed so poorly? And distributed so poorly? Rimgaurd should be invited to comment on this forum since there is so much interest in their product.

Jrrcorp,

I hear ya. When I was looking for Rimguard I went to their website and sent an email asking for the name of a dealer close to me -- the email was kicked back as undeliverable. I then called them and got what sounded like a home answering machine -- I didn't bother leaving a message. Maybe they're just a small operation. It's really too bad they can't take advantage of the interest in their product.

Why fill them instead of weights on the wheels?
