Live Continuous PTO

I'm about to buy a 5500 two wheel drive.
What is the above and is it any good? Can
you shut the PTO off by a lever or does it
turn all the time on a 5500? Thanks

The 5500 2wd has a on off shifter on the pto with a 2 stage clutch. If you don't know what I mean by a 2 stage clutch, the clutch when pushed part way down disengages the tractor drive train, and then when the clutch is pushed the rest of the way down it will disengage the PTO. This allows you to stop the tractor without stopping the operation of your PTO equipment. Thus the term live continous PTO, which has been a system used on tractors for many years, tried & true. Good luck with your 5500, I know you will like it, it is a very solid tractor.

off the PTO and keep it from spinning-if you
don't need it?

You take the PTO out of gear just like you do the tractor.



Think of it like a 4wd truck. You dont get the front wheels to drive unless you engage the 4wd. When you are done with the 4wd, you disengage the 4wd gearbox from the motor. I you want to run the PTO, you clutch then engage the PTO. If you dont want the PTO, then you leave it in neutral.

It doesnt run all the time, UNLESS you engage it, then you can run it all the time yet still stop and start the tractor using 1/2 the clutch. It is continous because you can leave it run while using the clutch.
