lo-boy versus over-the-wheel flatbed gooseneck?

Don't think I saw it mentioned, but I just bought a new gooseneck deckover, and one option I got was the "lo-profile". The standard deck height is ~ 34", mine is ~28". I was thinking the same thing as many people here, lower is easier to load.
BTW, the trailer is a Loadmax, my third one and I love it. Built extremely well. I got the 12K axles, so can load it to the max. (ha ha)
Used might be a little harder to find, but the "lo-pro" option is a good way to go.

That Load Max is a night trailer. I had a 25' GN back in the late 90's through about 2002ish and hated how tall it was. If I had one like that I may have keep it. Traded for a smaller bumper pull and it still fits my needs.

What tires did you get under it ? 205/65 R16 10 ply duals ?
We made trailers with that deck height on 205/65 R16 tires, but the 8 ply were only good for 4 ton per axle.

This is a major problem in CT also, not just Calif... It is not your 11500 gvw Ford that is the problem, it is trailers, on their own rated at 10,000 gvw or higher, As I have said here numerous times over the years, I have the Union scale on top of me and no way to go around it,. Although, 40 years of class one or now called class A, doesn't matter to me anyway,... Some troopers at the Union scale (INTERPRET) a 10,000 trailer you need a CDL.. Other troopers ( INTERPRET) no CDL until the combination reaches 26K or greater,... and here in lies the problem.. I highly doubt that these states will get together and once and for all, read and interpret the same,, Why should they? They would lose a great deal of overweight tickets whether they were issued right or wrong...:)

Does CT hire alot of troopers that can't read?

CT's requirements are the same as the Federal requirements that clearly state you do NOT need a CDL simply/solely based on the trailer being over 10k.

Part of the problem is that people just assume the cops know what they are talking about and take their word for it.

Tires are 235/80 R16 10 ply. The braking ability on these axles is incredible....enough to stop this load pretty quickly!

Scoutcub, I had not snapped to the idea of a 28" deck height.... seems that this is the best combination option I've heard about.... super nice rig you have... am envious!

Hey, thanks a lot! I am very happy with the truck and trailer. (and dozer too)

Good luck with the search......

I like the lo-boy trailer due to low center of gravity and better stability. As an aside I tow with 3/4 ton small flat bed truck,so forklift loads are transported on the truck rather than the trailer.

Texasjohn,
Id sell the trailer with no brakes ASAP and use that $$ towards your overdeck gooseneck. Texas has a new law, well recent...trailers over 4k rating have to have a brake axle and a yearly state inspection. Its not a DOT inspection, but just a regular state inspection like you get on your car.Its on the books ,true and the company I work for has got a warning, our trailers have the inpection on them.( Been thru this on another forum,I dont mean to sound smart@ss) As far as DOT is concerned in Tx, you donot have to worry until you gross over 26k. Gross over 26 k, yes you do fall under DOT, unless you have farm plates, then it 54k I think.Go across state lines for commerce it drops to 10k.
The lowpro scout cub is talking about is also called a peirced beam, I liked it better than the standard G/N.

OMG...now I know I just can't live unless I get a pierced beam with torsion bar, 20 ft plus 5 ft dovetail with middle ramp and LED lights with tool box, dexter axles, tandem dually and deck on gooseneck:D

I'm learning all sorts of things...thanks, had not snapped, either, to the pierced beam phrasing, either.

OH, well, that just makes the Craig's List search phrase more specific;)
Actually, it'll be the SearchTempest phrase with 200 mile radius:eek:
