I want to drive a two stage pump oiff of my 4600 tractor, I can,t find a pump for it ,I can get a 28 gallon two stage pump byt it needs 3600rpm,whats the way of stepping up the speed from my tractors 540

You can do a 6 : 1 ratio to get the two stage to 3600 rpm, but why.

Why two stage, why not a Prince PTO pump.

jj I have seen 20 gallon pto pump fall on its face ,not a lot , but , two stage handles all the hard and nottie woods up here

Do you understand that a 28 GPM hyd pump at 3000 psi requires about 58 HP.

What is the HP on the 4600, I am guessing about 46 HP

Your 46 HP could support about 22.5 GPM if all of the HP is applied to the pump.

While 28 gpm's at 3000 psi may be 58 hp........a 28 "2-stage" hyd pump is nowhere near 28 gpm's when it reaches 3000 psi......

not sure of what the gpm's cut back to on that pump, but that would be where the calculations of max hp would be at 3000 psi ....

Your are right. 7 GPM at 3000 psi will only need about 14 HP.

My tractor puts out 49 hp to the pto, when in opration the tractor will only be used to drive the pump, With a 6 to 1 ratio do you think i will need to add a fly wheel to my step up,Are belts and pullys the way to go or geerbox ,or can I run a standard ,trans back wards to get my needed rpm.

you dont want to have to use your tractor to power you splitter. Your better off getting your self like a 25hp vtwin Vanguard. The amount of fuel you will save is off of the charts. You have to remember your pto speed and your tractor pumps are variable on your tractor rpm. I know i have an older tractor vs your newer diesels how ever still 4 gallon per hour is going hurt at current prices.
