I am soon going to be getting a tracked skid loader and i am considering building a new log splitter and wood post driver. Mostly i would want it for just punching 4inch posts in the ground. I dont know if i can build something to have the force required to punch an 8inch corner post.

I figure if i drill into the i beam and make the wedge so it can be removed i can put a set of guides on the bottom of the ibeam to keep the post in place.

Has any one worked on a or used a post pounder. I know there are two types one that raises a massive weight then drops it and then others that just push things into the ground.

I am in the process of sketching something up in google sketch and see what i can come up with. Btw this is a long term project, i figure with this and the backhoe i am getting with the skid loader i can rent my self out and do custom work for people.

I would be afraid that trying to push a large post in dry ground might just lift that end of the tractor. I think a drop weight post pounder would have a better chance of success than a pusher.
