Around here scraping has gotten strict. All cars, no matter what condition, motor or not must have a title.

It does not matter if its tin cans or gold, they take your picture coming in along with your vehicle, license plate, ect. They then take your picture again when you pay out and must have a photo id. If are scrapping for a company (you work for them or are doing a job for them) you need a letter each and every load on letter head. (each trip).

Its easier to get a prescription than it is to take 20# of aluminum cans in.

Chris

Its about that way where I take my scrap metal too. They take your plate # and DL #. Guess we have to start paying taxes on that money.

Wait a minute. I paid for my metal, used it til it was scrap, and now they tax the money I get for the scrap? Thats double taxing.

most of the yards here also require a title for all cars. However, you can cut a vehicle into pieces and scrap it that way without a title.

We also have a yard that will run a title search to make sure the title is "clear", which is all the scrap bill was meant to cover. Each search they run is billed to them (by the State I guess) and they pass this charge along to the customer. If you take a car in without a title, they charge $15 to run the search.

The biggest pain here is that if you scrap more then 3 cars in a 12 month period you need a special license from the state.

Wow I'm glad things arent that strict around here.

They only require an ID. No license plate #'s, no photos, etc.

And no I dont pay taxes on it either. But I suppose if one were to claim it as income on their taxes, Ofcourse you will be taxed.

I dont claim it as income though, because most times you loose money, like when scrapping cans. You paid more for them then you are getting back.

I wonder when the state is going start tracking the ID's that we are required to show for taxable income.

I agree about losing money, last time I scrapped some old barn tin and some "presents" from a renter that moved out I got $65 and filled my truck up for $75.

What town was the scrapyard in? Was it the one that gives the blue, green, and yellow tokens?

Not sure about any tolkens. I was reluctant to give out any names and bash any business until everything got worked out.

But since we worked it out, this yard was Sims. They have a place in delaware and marion. And I think they do something with "sims points" or "sims bucks" or something like that???

The other two yards I normally go to are Ross Bros in Mt. Vernon and Milliron in mansfield.

Here we have to have a title for any car, regardless of condition or completeness. I am told there are a couple of places that will still take cars without a title, but they pay a LOT less than the other places.

Around here its about the same all cars have to have a title or any part that has a vin. It keeps the crooks out of the stealing to scrap business.

I watched crook trying to bring cooper pipe in and they really gave him hard time till cops got there dont know the outcome as I got unloaded left.

One yard down by the river has a shreder that would shred a full school bus its was real neat to watch run.

Most yards and quarries around here have numbers outside so you can see your wieghts.

I meant Sims, will have to look at my last slip. They give you the Blue, Green, Or Yellow coins based on how much they pay you. Usually just hauling in stuff that I would have to pay to get rid of at the transfer station and content to cover my expenses.
