Took delivery of the Longevity Mig 140 yesterday ... In about an 1/2 hr I was laying down some test beads ... Today I put it to work ... tweaked the settings to a good sizzle and off and welding ... welded schedule 40 pipe to rectangular tube for the collars on the grapples ... thought for sure pushing it back to back I would hit the duty cycle ... NOT!! Really puts down a fine weld nice beads.

The only thing I can actually compare it too is my buddy's 140 Lincoln that I used to build some gates ... no comparison this little BIG welder easily out performed the Lincoln.

It came with the spool gun ... be a couple days to get this order out and then I'll do some aluminum and SS with it.

Anyone get in my area and want to test my longevity products ... come on we'll cut some things up and weld them back together!!

IMHO ... it sure is good to have quality welders and plasma cutters in the shop !!!

Yeah I don't understand the concerns with duty cycle:confused3:. I got to play with member here roadhunter's Everlast 120-volt Mig welder. I did an endurance test with it, on a 15-amp breaker.

The Lincoln actually was aggravating .. Weld a little and then wait on the machine .. I kept thinking anytime now and she just kept on going.

WOW! That's a beautiful weld! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I've played with member here Furu's Stickweld 250. It was very impressive with 7018.

Thank you kind sir... That's on the SSQA attachment I build on my units ... The stick weld 140 just keeps impressing me.

I sure understand it - I've used several small migs that really tested my patience (read pissed me off) due to overheating and/or tripping 20 amp breakers.

Miller, Lincoln, re-badged Century - after a while I have to quit in disgust.

But to be fair, I was using them wide open like they didn't have a duty cycle - so it's technically my fault :)

Then when they started tripping breakers and/or shutting down, I'd wait as long as I'm able (about 50 seconds) and try again ;)

.....that could be against the manufacturers guidelines....

But, I suffer from a distinct lack of patience when working

Edit: the migs I'm talking about were old school transformer based, I believe the one Shield Arc is referring to is inverter based and uses less input power for the same output.

I can't ever remember hitting the duty cycle of a welding machine. I've run wire feeders at 450 plus amps, 8 to 10-hours a day, burning 70 plus pounds of wire a day, and never hit the duty cycle. Maybe I'm just too slow?

That's like comparing apples and rocket ships....

A lot of Lincoln engine drives are rated at 60% duty cycle. I think they're severely under rated my self.

Used it more this afternoon .. It's a sweet user friendly Mig ... I build 5 chambers for the accumulator .. Played with volts and wire speed it's just so easy to get a good sizzle!!

Here's a picture of one.

The only thinkg that scares me about these units is the wire feed mechanism -- very flimsy, and lots of complaints online. When I saw the mechanism on a Hobart, it was no comparison (which is about right, as the Hobart is $150 more).

I'm not sure when they made the change to the feed mechanism ... I did see pictures online of the old style cheap wing nut and found a review where a guy had an issue ..I'll take some photos today of the drive on the unit and get them posted.

Other than the picture of the Lincoln was closer, I don't see much difference.

I've never seen a Longevity Mig welder. But I would think it's about the same as Everlast. When I got to play with roadhunter's Everlast Mig welder I was having a hard time getting the nozzle where I wanted it. I had the gun in my right hand, and trying to remove the nozzle with my left hand. Dumb ol me, I pulled the trigger. Drove the wire right through my welding glove into left hand! I've never had that happen before!
I'm really disappointed in the drive system in my Lincoln LF-72 wire feeder! I bought it used, but it will not push 1/16" flux core wire! It will push .045" wire, but nothing bigger:rolleyes:. I have to switch to my LN-25 to run bigger wire.

Thats funny ... not the wire in the hand ... The fact you've never seen a Longevity Mig ...I've never seen other than pictures any of the Everlast units ... wish someone close to me had some I'd love to do a side by side comparison.

Shield, I know I've been welding at least a week less than you (2) :D but aren't you 'sposed to use a block of WOOD to test the drive roll pressure??!?

Seriously tho, sorry 'bout your "owiee" - I'd have thought your marvelous "red queen" of a neighbor would've given you enough pain without you goin' lookin' fer it  (done there, been that )...Steve
