Too cold/dark to go out to my barn, so here's a pic of the Hobart drive system from their website:

At this point, I'd say it's a wash in that area, as Longevity's drive feed looks greatly improved over the previous plastic setup. So Longevity has some advantages over Hobart in price, control increments, and being spool gun capable (have to step up to a Hobart 190 230V unit to get spool gun capability).

I realize this is about Longevity, but it is interesting to note the new Millermatics feature a new angle drive system that makes feeding better and prob increases liner life. Terry

How long is the liner life for most migs?

If you're running just Mig the liners can last a very long time. Using self shielded flux core wire with serrated drive rolls, they may not last that long. We use to remove the guns from the feeders every Friday night, place the end of the gun that goes in the feeder on the valve of an oxygen bottle and blow them out. They sell a fiber knob that clips on the wire just before it goes into the drive rolls, or you could just use an ear plug, and a cloths pen. I wouldn't use the fiber knobs with oil on them my self.

Thanks for the tip!!

Perhaps the angled drive roll mechanism is to counteract the the effect of welding carts that mount the feeder with the front panel tipped upwards ....?

I studied that today ... the wire on the longevity feeds clockwise under the bottom in perfect line with the drive system ... the wire has a straight shot into the mechanism.

Also ... Today I welded 3/8" skid plates to the accumulator ... so I thought lets see what this little mig will do ... I turned up the volts to 8 ... thinking I'll need to hang over on the 3/8 for a while to get some penetration ... wrong ... if I held over too long it burned in and that that old scalloped edge look appeared ... had to walk along .. got plenty of penetration and some good looking beads ... Customer stopped in to place an order ... he looked at those welds and said thats why I come here!!!

Sorry, blueriver I guess I didn't explain clearly. The advantage of the angle drive is achieved where the wire enters the mig gun's whip, aiming it at the ground instead of level to the ground.

I have the 200S model . Similar specs as the Lincoln 216 or Miller 212 . Smaller , more portable though .

Only a couple things I changed was first had to order a knurled drive roller that fit a ESAB machine or ??? . Had the same shaft size , thickness and diameter of original feed roller , just had to grind off a flange from one side and it has worked fine since . ( I weld exclusively outside thus run .035 fluxcore 100% of time ) . Second was to changed liners to a .035 to .045 liner from the original that was a .030 to .035 or something like that . Original was maxed out at .035 thus had issue's occasionally , while with new liner , .035 is at bottome of range and have had no issue's with feed .

For the Deal that I got through a post in the Longevity thread , Could not pass it up and have been Happy since .
