Swines I like your reply, finally one with some facts in it. Do you know what Edgar online is?
Someone bailed John Deere out of some serious financial woes just about the time John Deere and Hitachi announced there "join ventures" It is rumored in the Finance and ag industry that Hitachi put up the boot. I seriously doubt John deere is going to put in there public records " Hey were taking a large cash infusion for consolidations to Hitachi on the backside". Who knows, someone paid the bills, but it does not matter I am sorry I said that in gest. Your are right I have no proof, I am wrong, without proof there is no point in saying it.
.
Being a publically traded corporation, their consolidated balance sheet has to show all transactions and where the money comes from. Otherwise, you get to deal with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). Those folks make the IRS look like party people.
If Hitachi "put up the boot" that would show up as loans to the company - honest, you can't hide this stuff for long. Enron, WorldCom, and several others have tried, and well....it apparently just doesn't work out
I used to have a publicly traded company, the last thing
I ever wanted to do was mix it up with the SEC - you NEVER win. They always have an auditor who's trying to impress someone...
The stories are nice and the conspiracy's are certainly fun...but, with a publicly traded corporation, you just can't hide things. Too many people's reputations are on the line, and the SEC independent auditors always find out if things like a "back door loan" aren't disclosed.
Lastly, no matter how much money Hitachi "gave" to Deere - they could not own the company or even controlling interest in it unless they were the majority stock holder.
Looking at Edgar, I can find no listing of Hitachi as a major stock holder. In the world of finance, any large company trading would be heavily reported as, by law, this cannot be hidden from stockholders. Every "owner" (stockholder) has to have the same benefit of information.
As for the tractor manufacturing part of this thread - frankly - I don't care. It's a global business - especially for heavy industrial manufacturing. I guess I don't see the point as to where the equipment is manufactured. You just have to get a quality piece of equipment that does the job you need.
When Ford bought Versatile, they moved the manufacture of 200hp tractors and larger to the Versatile plant in Canada. Ford and Navistar share a manufacturing plant in Mexico for medium duty trucks. Etc., Etc.
A long time ago...1976...I was helping a friend put a throw-out bearing in his Volvo. I said, "Why don't you just take the bearing down to Kaman Bearing, and see if they have one that will fit?"
Nope...he had to have the "real Volvo part" - which came in a stylish blue and white box with "Volvo" printed on the front.
--- and when the bearing was taken out of the box it was stamped ----
"Timken Tapered Roller Bearing - Made in USA"
......I don't think things have really changed all that much now - have they?
