G'day,

I usually post in the Kioti thread and I noticed one particular thread that stated that not many owners ever wash down their tractors after major mud use or even polish or wax them.

On our farm we were taught as kids to hose down the tractors and implements after each use major use and also take about 15 minutes per day to add extra grease gun spots and protective sprays to the gear.

This way it keeps your tractors and implements in excellent condition and in the long run saves you a lot of money in future trade-in evaluations.

All of our tractor implements are housed in two huge sheds to protect them from the elements. Each tractor also has their own individual 'donga' type sheds.

Many farmers over the years just leave all their gear outside to end up as rusted heaps, why waste money?

Cheers from Riccarda /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cool pic! Thank you for posting!

It's always a pleasure to read posts from our friends Down Under (do you refer to us as Up Over?)

BTW, it sure doesn't look like you're wearing your seat belt...I hope you do as it would be a real shame to read about a lovely lass such as you getting injured in a tractor roll over!

G'day Roy and Frank,

Yeah I usually wear my seat belt on the tractor, when it is working and under heavy power.... but I just stopped to smile for a snap of the new Kioti (Daedong) DK50 to show the Kioti thread dudes.

We just call you guys Americans, Seppos or Yanks. Most Australians and Americans get on well.

Cheers from Riccarda /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Howdy Riccarda!

When weather permits we take a pressure worser to our New Holland. With a 2600 psi sprayer one has to be careful where they direct the water. We try to keep it away from the electrical under the dash if at all possible. Some compressed air also works wonders for drying things off a bit too.

The tractor also sees wax about twice a year.

I just washed and waxed mine Sunday. My uncle was a large farmer and always kept his equipment inside.

Hi Riccarda,
Im not sure if Im responding to a post a few days ago where one fella was talking about waxing his tractor. If that was the post, I said i dont ever polish or wax my work tractor but if the tractor has been in alot of mud I will pressure wash it off. The same with the implements, hope that clarifies that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice looking tractor by the way!

I noticed the post about pressure washing your tractor and wonder how many of you do the same? Also what prep/pressure settings do you do/use to not have any problems, ie, engine, fuel, grease fittings etc..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

/ Looking after your Tractor and Gear #10
Well my pressure washer is only rated at 1500 psi so I guess I never use more pressure than that. I try to keep the direct water spray away from any of my electricals! Other than that no serious precautions that I can think of.

G'day Soundguy,

The Ausssie slang word 'seppo' goes back to the days of World War 2. I asked my grandma before she passed away what it all meant. as she used the word "seppo" often. Her sister (my aunt) married an American during WW2. Sadly they have now both passed on after a happy and successful marriage.

During WW2 many American troops were stationed in Australia on route to the Pacific area war zones. Australians often have funny slang names for everything and the word 'Seppo' came into play.

This is certainly not meant to be offensive, it was just a play on words of the time. The slang thread sort of went like this- USA Troops - Americans - Americans to Yanks - Yanks to Septic Tanks - Septic Tanks to Septics - Septics to Seppos.

Any Americans who know the Aussie sense of humour will understand. It's just silly fun.

Also with cleaning the tractors down, we use a small pressure pump and are careful of the electrics. About twice a year we might just add some wax polish to the coloured body work. This keeps them looking good and keeps their resale value up higher.

Cheers from Riccarda /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well of course, Yanks > to septic tanks. A logical progression???????? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hello to Tractor Chick in Australia - Yup its a good idea to keep your tractor clean to prevent rust. Up here in the hills of Connecticut, USA in the winter I often have to apply much salt and sand to my driveway to provide traction on sheets of ice. Later as snow is removed there is constant contact of the salted ice with the tractor. So, I apply "Fluid Film" an oily type substance (derived from lambs wool I think) to the under carriage, wheels and other parts of my Kioti CK20 TLB as a finish protector and rust inhibiter. Seems to help. The product is also used on ships to prevent corrosion or so it says on the web site. I garage my tractor and carefully wipe it down cause hey I like a shiny tractor when it is not in use (and of course the tractor looks better in photos). Gooday. Charlie

I think from all the confusion about the slang names for Americans that a lot of folks don't know the origin of the term "Yankee". Let's just say that it was far from complimentary so this thread doesn't get shut down.

G'day from Australia,

In our north eastern coast ,right adjacent to a popular section of the Great Barrier Reef was where Cyclone Larry devastated several small towns and cities. It had as similar intensity to your Katrina, but without that sad outcome.

We live south of there, and were well away from the cyclone zone. However another cyclone is due and is headed our way over the weekend, so let's all hope that we survive it.

Thanks for the kind thoughts... Riccarda

Riccarda,
Your post reminds me to wash my tractor! It's at my rural property kept in a canopy enclosure. Everytime I go up I have to remove rodent nests fom under the engine. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif It's been raining and muddy for the last 3 months and I'll finally get a chance to clean her up next visit.

BTW, just love your Tracto Chick character!

If you put moth balls or crystals in and around the closed areas of the tractor it will do a good job as a rodent repellant. Works for raccoons in the trash, too.
