i got a 2605 and i love it. I bought a 2625 mfwd with fel and it was not a good tractor at all. i called dealer next day to come pic it up. it would die if i put the tractor in any bind. it would not go up the a small hill. i decided to go with a case farmall 70 mfwd with a fel and it is a great tractor for about the same amount of money for the 2625.

I am demoing a 2625 this weekend. I will be using it on a 7 '10 disc mower and a M&W round baler just to put it through some heavy work. We want to see how much fuel it burns and if will live up to the hp&torque claims of the simpson engine. Will report back on it in a few days. scrapironford

Who makes the Simpson Engiine?

I cant wait to here how it will preform. I will be using it to make hay, move bales and clean the barn out. Thanks!

Simpson engine is made under a Perkins license in India. They have been building them for 40plus years. This one is a 3.3 litre na 4cyl engine. With what we are going to do with it,it will be maxed out. This disc mower & baler are hp hogs, been running them with 85-100 hp tractors. scrapironford

I own a MF2615 and it's a great tractor!
The Simpson diesel engine is very reliable and has plenty of power.

Update on the 2625. We need to remember this is an economy 50hp utility tractor. It was a 4x4, 8x8 shuttle with ind pto. If you want or need this size tractor with bells and whistles, this tractor is not for you. The 2625 uses a time tested proven design, limited electronics and manual controls. I had some minor problems to begin with, about 2 qts water in the fuel, in less than 30 min the owner of the dealership personally delivered me 2 fuel filters,as I had already drained the tank. The other problem was a filter came loose,my fault. My disc mower is an old greenland group that has a high hp requirment,I mowed the thickest, rankest Bahia I had, baled 7 rolls per acre. The 2625 could only pull the disc mower at 4.5 MPH and used about 2.5 gl fuel per hour. Lets be fair, the oliver 1855 could only pull the mower at 5MPH and used 3 3/4 gal per hour,in this grass. In young bermuda grass it cut at 5 1/2 mph and worked a lot less, Next I tedded a field of hay, had to look in the fuel tank to see if it used any fuel. I then raked 9ac with a 10 wheel rake, same fuel use as tedder. Now comes the test, M&W4500 round baler. It had all it wanted as this baler it is hard to run. After 3ac I switched tractors,MF492, as to not abuse the 2625, it run it but not great. I also used it on a deere 466 baler,4 rolls just to see what it would do,done a lot better with this baler. Just before the demo was done we used it on a NH 268 sq baler just to get the baler working, it didn't even know it was there. I don't need a 50 hp 4x4 tractor although it might be good using the loader. The trans is nice and easy to use. If you rest your foot on the clutch, I did at first to comfortable, your clutch might not last very long. With this size tractor I prefer a LIVE PTO for what it is used for instead of Ind pto. The Simpson engine was smooth as a perkins and seemed to produce its hp on a minimum of fuel. It done everything I asked it to do. Didn't have time to use it on any tillage equipment. This might be the best tractor in its class for the dollar? I don't know yet, still have 2 or 3 more to test. scrapironford

Thanks for the update scrapironford! No frills is what I am after. I would want the live PTO also. I would hope it would be less thirsty than an Oliver. I love driving an Oliver:D, smooth runners, but they can be a bit hard on the fuel budget(the gas burners).
I still haven't decided yet on what will be my next loader tractor. It is down to Deere, Massey or Kubota. They have the best dealer network in my area with at least 2 each to choose from within 30 miles.

Hey, I have been considering getting a tractor. I have been looking at the Massey Ferguson 2600 series tractors. I like the 2605 2wd, not interested in 4wd tractors. I was curious about the 38hp of the 2605, and it's lug power ? How much lug power are we talking about ? I have noticed little grey fergies capable of pulling 3 bottom plows. My primary use will be tillage work, a close second will be pulling heavy Red Oak logs, some over 30 in diameter, anywhere from 8ft to 30ft long, depending on the diameter. Can this tractor handle heavy logs, dead weight, of this size ? I can cut the logs to size's managable for this tractor if I would find the lug power wasn't enough to pull a particular log. What is anyone's experience with tractors of this weight 4,000lbs, and around 30hp, what do they seem to lack, except for maybe lower PTO hp ratings. I have also looked at the 2615, and 2625. The 2615 is only a few hundred pounds heavier, with 11 more hp, and a little heavier rear end axle housing, the 2625 has 63 hp, weighs over 5,000lbs, has a heavier rearend, and heavier look altogether. I have noticed that heavier tractors in wet soil conditions seem to get stuck quicker than the 4,000lb class of tractors. Now on dry ground the larger tractors may acquire more traction, but in damp, and wet soil conditions, that I find common here in Southern West Virginia, as well as mountainous. This would be my first Utility tractor. Any experinced insight is appreciated thanks. Oh, the 2605 is priced about $11,500-$12,000 2WD the 2615 2WD $14,500-$16,000, and the 2625 is more difficult to price, Massey's website says $30,000 but, I believe it is somewhere in the $19,000-$22,000 range.. hopefully lower. One of the Dealers for Massey told me prices vary at different times of the year. Other tractors I have considered are the Farmall 70, and 55A,75A 2wd manual, New Holland T4020-4030 2WD, but I like the Massey Fergusons, The little Grey Fergie as a good reputation for versatility. So, is the 2605 38hp 2WD enough tractor ? I don't really want to buy a 2605, and find I need something a little more powerfull, or pay $7,000 dollars more for a tractor I don't need..thanks
