Looking for a multitasking utility trailer

I would avoid any trailer with 12 inch wheels. One I had required 90 PSI for rated capacity. Potholes and off-road use were not friendly to the tires.

When I've made long distance trips, most of the trailers I seen beside the freeway, with tire trouble, had 8 or 12 inch wheels.

And boat trailer wheels as people don't do proper maintance on then (fresh grease and such ) at beginning of each boating season...

I-69 Trailer Center is a retail shop fur Sure-Trac trailers. They'll custom make a trailer for you from the factory. I have a stock 5'x10' with high sides (it wouldn't dump like you need), that I've used about once a week for 7 years with no trouble. I have a cage that I use on the trailer to trasport livestock (normally sheep). I use it for moving anything that I don't want to put in the family van. We annually take it on 2,000 mile vacation trips... no problems. I push it around in thedriveway by hand.

I plan on replacing it with a single axle tilt bed equipment trailer with stake sides. Single Axle Tilt Bed Equipment Trailer

That's a lot to ask of one trailer. Dump and enclosed are rarely compatible, unless you mean low sidewall. Dump usually means more than a ton of material to make the hydraulics worthwhile and load ratings for suspension and wheels/tires mean you don't get to play in the lightweight class. The first single axle dump trailer for $43XX seemed like a solid option. Of course, deciding and finding are two different things.

If a guy knew fabrication, most of the component assemblies are available and you could build exactly what you want for a similar or lower price.

I am looking for a trailer and not having much luck. Maybe what I'm looking for does not exist. Thought I would ask here and see if anyone has seen what I'm looking for.

What I'm looking for
  1. Needs to be enclosed, sides and back, so that I can haul small sized stone without it leaking out. This is where I'm having a hard time finding anything.
  2. It does not need to be capable of hauling my tractor
  3. Looking for something that can carry about a ton, give or take (1500-2500#)
  4. Would be nice if it had the ability to dump.
  5. Needs to be road legal, lights, etc
  6. Would like to be able to also tow it behind my tractor
  7. Light enough so that I can push/pull it around when it's not hooked to anything
I have been able to find enclosed trailers I can tow behind my tractor, but they are not made for road use. The only road trailers I have found have open sides or back which would not be suitable for haling stone.
I’ve got a 7x12, 2900 gross, 2000 net, single axle landscaper’s trailer I bought at Orschelns many moons ago. It has twin mesh tailgates and a side mesh flip down ramp. They are popular with the 4 wheeler crowd. I put plywood strip side panels around it when I haul rock or gravel. I can move it around by myself or use my three point receiver if pulling behind my bx22.

Adapt a common (cheaper) trailer like BX22 said. Looking for a dump trailer will narrow your options and increase your cost considerably. I bought a new 6x10 single-axle utility trailer a few years ago for about $900, and it has been very handy. Has 12-in open sides, but I line these with 1/2-inch plywood to carry mulch, gravel, etc. Will carry 3 cy of mulch or 1 cy of river rock (weight limited). Has a extruded-metal ramp for loading mowers, etc. Gate easily slides off if not needed. Has 2-inch ball, 15-inch tires and lights (no brakes). Pay a little extra and get the treated-wood deck. I can roll it by hand on the driveway. Uneven ground can be tricky if rutted or sloped. My TG1860 mower can put it around the yard. Good luck.

Army trailer?

Solid metal sides would contain a ton of stone.

Self contain surge brakes.

Separate mechanical brakes helps on farm.

Lunette hitch for better off road articulation.

Sideboards and canvas enclosure option.

I dump with the tractor. Some folks modify to dump mechanically.

Tow nicely on the road. Handles a full load of mulch to top of sideboards. Brakes are important.

Cheap. $500 years ago with 4 sideboards and full enclosure canvas. No rust. Had to wire for lights.

HD 16” wheels.

Some models have aluminum beds and run flat tires.
I was under the impression that these military trailers have a built-in dump feature achieved by setting the wheel brakes and then backing up to tilt the bed and dumping the load.

They have a folding tongue to reduce shipping size. It gets unbolted at the rear of the tongue at the spring hanger, then pivots upwards at the front of the box.

The "dump" feature, unbolts the tongue at the front of the box and pivots at the rear of the tongue. But the bolts at the rear of the tongue are not in line, and dumping twists the tongue or the spring hanger. One will eventually break.
