Two good ideas! I hadn't thought about drilling out a slot. One would probably do the job and could probably be done without removing the wheel. That roll pin looks like some disassembly will be required to punch it out.Thanks! That really helped. I was having trouble visualizing the dual functions of your knob, but I understand it now.
I can't find a parts source for it, sorry. Your idea of liquid steel seems like a good interim fix. If you are really attached to that saw, our could consider finding a knob that you can cut a slot in for the pin, and source a gear that you can weld/pin to your knob. Alternatively, you could drill out the existing pin engaging lobes and press in a new steel part with lobes or slots to match the pin. (Like half a Lovejoy coupling)
