Rotary Cutter looking for guesstimates for how long it would take to clear 2.5 acres of blackberry

Cutting backwards is no problem and is the best way to do that kind of work with a small tractor. Just start taking small bites and soon you will learn how big of a bite to take. I would have had it done by now with my little Massey and my 4 ft hog. I might have a few scratches but I would have a smile on my face looking at a clean field. :cool2: Ed

The problem appears to be that he'll have to back a 36-37" wide tractor with a 48" wide cutter 100 yards down multiple 60" rows between grape vine wires. That leaves 6" for margin of error on each side, looking backwards over his shoulders, through horrible stuff that is apparently 8' high in places.... piece of cake!

Front mounted is the way to go.... watch this video of my little PT425 with a front mounted brush cutter taking out a large multiflora rose. . I can lift it 4' if needed, but rarely do. Its the most dangerous piece of equipment I own or have ever operated.

I'd think a small tracked skidsteer with a brush cutter would work well, but I don't know how narrow they are. I think the Bobcat T450 is under 60" wide, but that doesn't leave much margin for error.

Anyhow, good luck with your project. Sounds brutal. Got any pictures of the land?

My little Power Trac PT425 only puts out 8gpm at 2500psi and runs a 48" brush cutter with no problems.

That is good to know. It must be the high PSI that gives it the torque.

It's easy for me to say because it's not my property or my problem, but I think I'd say "screw the trellis". As others have suggested, I suspect that, when it's all said and done, the trellis will be destroyed or compromised beyond repair anyway.

I would tend to agree to that. I'll bet it will be more trouble than it's worth trying to save them.

Well, they are 2" thick in some areas and over 8ft tall in places spread out like a wall but 300ft deep considering the length of the trellis rows. The thorns cut right though my Carhartt overalls, I would need a cage. If I had a FEL I would go straight in.
Burn it!

Nice little implement but that thing would not even touch a Himalayan BB thicket, based on the video you posted. Folks that have never seen Himalayan BB just don't understand them. Kind of like Kudzu. If you have never seen it you don't get it. Now the native BB or even the Evergreen BB that is more the ticket for your cutter MossRoad. It would do well for cutting those.
