wow.. I have one as well.. I don't see them very often.

small world!

Wow Soundguy!!! We need to quit talking to the same people!!! I bought both a IWB and OWB holster from Gary. I haven't used the OWB much at all. I wish he made them in brown, it'b be striking with the grips on my commander.

I have shot a hog in the ear with a .22 and killed it.

Have you ever shot a hog in the skull and killed it with the first shot with a .22 or other handgun round?

I've not done it personally, but I've seen it done quite a few times with a .22 rifle, but not a handgun. When I was a kid, there was a time when dad hired a fellow to kill, skin, gut, and cut in half either a hog or beef for the hide. And he dispatched them with a single .22 round between the eyes. But I guess hide prices went down and he wanted the hide plus $5 so I had to help dad and we did them ourselves from then on. And dad always dispatched them with a single .22 round between the eyes. Of course they used .22 long rifle and shot the animals from a distance of about 6 feet.

I just bought a pair of Ruger LC9s, a plain one for me and the Crimson Trace model for my wife. I figured that having a big red dot painted on any potential perp would be some significant added deterent. I was a little surprised that the sales guy had apparently not ever thought about that as a selling point!

I ALMOST went with the KelTec PF9 for me because according Ruger and KelTec's published specs, the KelTec is 12.7 oz (+ 5.5 for mag) and the Ruger is 17.1. Weight was a serious consideration since I plan to carry this at all times. 4.4 oz extra is significant. I was unsuccessful in trying to verify if the Ruger-specified weight included an empty mag or not, despite a bunch of Googling. If anyone is still interested, here are the REAL details for the LC9 according to a reasonably accurate digital scale:

Empty gun - 15.0 oz (so really only 2.3 oz more than the KelTec)
Empty mag - 2.0 oz
Empty gun and mag - 17.0 oz
Extra weight for the Crimson Trace - 0.5 oz (I was surprised how light this was!)
9mm round weight - 0.4 oz (Winchester 115gr White box target)
Full mag (7 rnds) - 4.9 oz

Full package, loaded w/7+1 rnds - 20.3 oz

Hey Ruger, if you are listening, I would suggest that you clarify your published specs and/or state them the same as other manufacturers of lightweight carry guns. You almost lost out to KelTec because the way your specs are written/published!

Certainly not a selling point. The 'perp' as you state can't see the red dot unless it's in his eyes. He sees you as the victim and that dot won't be stable anyway. You've obviously never been in a stressful situation with a red dot. Go to an approved NRA range and practice a bit and then report back......:)

By the way, if the dot is large, the lens needs cleaned. Use a cotton swab and alcohol, the denatured kind.

Soft cranial tissue works well on any animal, humans included. Had a friend that dropped a 2 year doe with a 10-22 Ruger rifle with one, well placed shot at the base of the ear. Entered the ear canal and decimated what little brain the doe had. It's not a legal (must be centerfire here) shot but it was on private property. Someone was standing by with a larger projectile loaded just in case....

Ear canals, eye sockets, nose canals, upper throat and temple areas all work well but one has to be a crack shot unless the animal can be approached and dispatched at close range.

Me, I prefer magnum centerfire rounds in the shoulder area. Save the mount and render the animal immobile.

I chuckle at the 'body armor' worn by law enforcement officers. Not that I would ever consider shooting a fellow human but a calculated shot to kill would be better placed elsewhere than the torso.

I believe the only animal that a soft cranial tissue shot don't work on is a 'possum. No crainal matter.

IMHO.. 'sights' on a self defense pistol are almost like .. um.. milk producing glands on a boar hog.

point click.

most people must not be able to point their index finger at a target.. or at least think they can't without a sighting line??

especially given that most self defense weapon discharges happen at VERY short range...
