Looking for semi-retirement land

My two cents. I planned on retiring and living in Wyoming. Bought 40 acres near hulett in 1999. Went there to start building in 2013 that was 3 years after I retired. I could make this long but I just say by the time I drilled a well, got a temp electric pole, septic system and the unmaintained county road fixed so I could drive on it after it rained it would have between 60 and 70 thousand. That is before I drove the first nail. I cut my losses and sold the place and decided to just haul my butt back to Kentucky. No taxes on retirement income and things are pretty cheap here including real estate. You can drill a well most places 125 feet and have good water. Permits???? Lol I agree with the previous Kentucky poster on that. Some things you do have to get permits on like electric and sewer but most others no unless you live in town. I grew up in Minnesota and was a military brat and lived in lots of places. I've learned that rural Kentucky isn't a half bad place to be. Hunting, fishing, lakes and it's located so you can get to lots other places in the us in just a day's drive. Of course getting to west coast would takes a couple days. People in Kentucky can read and write believe it or not, have some really good hospitals too. I have cattle, chickens and a couple hogs every now and then. I grow two gardens, about a 1/4 acre each. Winters aren't half bad just little snow, sometimes out of the blue you will get 10 to 12 inches but most of the time it's gone in a week. Summer's get a little hot and humid for a bit but ac, a trip to the lake or float trip in one of many rivers for the afternoon and some cold refreshment will make it more bearable. The state is different from one end to another - flat, mountains, hills what ever your looking for. That's just my input. I'm sure there are other states that are also really good to live in but there are some I sure wouldn't because of the cost and taxes. Good luck in finding your dream place and enjoy retirement. I myself love it. It's the best job I ever had.

Probably the best place to retire is a place you feel comfortable in, and already know the ropes.
