I have another question for the group. I am looking into purchasing a trailer to haul my new tractor with as it is not going to fit in my 14' dump. So I am looking at the Iron Bull 7 x 16 +4'(I believe but maybe 6') split tilt deck. Since I am not able to measure my tractor I was hoping someone on here could help out. I am looking for the overall length of NX4510CH with 6010FEL and 2485 backhoe attached. I am hoping that a 20' trailer will be plenty of room but wanted to find out for sure. Not sure if anyone on the board has this model Iron Bull but if so I would like to hear your comments. My dump trailer is the Iron Bull 83" x 14' 14,000lb and I have been very satisfied with it. Lots of small attention to detail things that not all manufactures do these days. So if I can I will stick with the same brand.

Also any reasons to not go with a split tilt trailer? I could go with a standard trailer with ramps just thinking it will be easier with the tilt deck??

Thanks!
Brian

I have a 20ft PJ.When I load my DK40 with front end loader and 6ft brush hog I have to rest the bucket on the front rail of the trailer.Wish i had purchased a 22ft trailer now.

I'm looking for that same info. I calculated 19 ft overall, but I dont have the backhoe yet to confirm. Curling the bucket might also save some room if it is tight.

With a 20' trailer you won't have any wiggle room to get the weight properly centered over the axles. You just load it all the way to the front and hope it rides good. If you can go with a 24' you would be better off for getting the correct tongue weight. You don't have to worry about overhang and if needed you have some room for extra stuff.

I carry my old 48HP Ford TLB on a 20' trailer.
I bought 20' because it tucks in my building just right, to put another vehicle ahead of it.
It works for my TLB, but just barely.
Should have bought 24' and not been concerned about what could be stored in front.

Brian,
I hauled my NX55 Cab with Backhoe when I bought it and it fit on a 20Ft equipment trailer but it wasn't a fun ride for the 12 hours. Mine measures 81.5 inches wide with the Ag tires and the trailer was 82 inches so it was tight. We did have to pull off after the first mile and reposition some things because we got the death wobble not enough weight on the tongue. Now I was hauling a 7ft bush hog back as well as a couple other implements, ended up turning and having the backhoe on the tongue along with the Bush Hog and we never went over 60MPH. Length wise you will be okay just not sure about the tongue weight

Thank you for the input! I am looking at the Iron Bull (Non gooseneck)83" wide 16' tilt with 6' stationary on the front. With a 22' deck length and then another 1.5' for the knife edge I am hoping that will be enough wiggle room to get the tongue weight correct. Would like to be able to keep 1000 pounds or so on the tongue. That is where my F350 SRW seems to trailer best with my other trailers.

22' plus 1.5' knife edge should be plenty long enough to give room for load adjustment. Length is similar to my PJ 22' plus 1'9" knife edge, full tilt, 14K, 82". Never seen an Iron Bull but you know the quality owning one.

I hauled the NX for the first time yesterday on a 30' gooseneck. F350 srw. Towed beautiful, but no fun to turn around. It is overkill for just the tractor, but I can haul my sxs at the same time if I want.

but no fun to turn around

Takes planning ahead and knowing the route. If you miss my access road it is another 10 miles before a long trailer can be turned around, almost a half hour added to the trip.

Just a little food for thought here.. I turned my wheels around on my nx5010 and filled my tires for stability and traction on hills and my width is now either 82 or 83 inches. Wound up having to go with a deck over trailer to get it wide enough.

22+ should be fine.

As others said, 20' just too small to get load right

Yup! I had a 20 footer and it was too small for load arrangement or wanting to add more stuff on the trailer. I am happy with a 24 footer.

What does a 22-24 decent quality trailer go for? One that can carry 10-12K.

Mine is a 14K 22' PJ type TF (full tilt) model. Tilt beds cost more than a trailer with ramps. Usually around $1500-2000 more. Depending on brand, tilt beds can run $5500 and up. That said mine cost around $6800 incl. tax. A similar trailer with ramps would be around 4-6K.
Texas Pride 22' 14K with ramps shows 5K price.

Since my trailer weighs about 4K I can carry 10K max. You would need a trailer rated higher than 14K to carry 12K or more on the trailer.

Here is my .02 and the standard worth everything you paid for it

20' should be long enough. After length is determined it comes down to about three things:
angle iron/c channel - how big and how long
cross member makeup and spacing (hint 2' spacing saves the manufacturer a lot of moola)
axles/tires

other than paint choice - powder coat/paint and led lights vs. regular the rest of the stuff is marketing. Sure you can argue about ramps and wheel/tires, rub rails, stake pockets, wood floor vs. metal, and the necessity of a manufactured or self made chain bin and winch plate. I have a guy down the road that can weld whatever I want, I just needed a manufacturer to make a solid frame to work from. Everyone customizes their trailers for the most part anyway, so why bother with what the dealer offers, get something plain Jane and pimp it out later. I'd put some spinners on it, maybe jack it way up in the air and put some super fat mudders on it and then run your exhaust through it and coal roll people from your trailer. Yeah Boi.
