Just joined last evening and have tinkered around a bit, but don't have a lot of time at the moment (between work and school for masters, not much time to dream), but looking for a tractor and Yanmar seems to be a good fit for the price for us from what I've seen.

Basically, we have 100 acres that are mostly planted pines, but will slowly have roads and some areas cleared once timber is ready to harvest (will hire someone to do this with larger equipment). Goal is to plant some apple trees and pecans and also small food plots once we really get going.

Want 4wd and a front-end loader would be nice. Buddy has a bush hog he will give us, but will need disc and box blade to start off with.

My main question is I have been reading about the Vietnam refurb'd Yanmars and wondering what your feelings are on them. I really like the 3110D, but not sure if I'm buying a really nice looking halfway rebuilt problem.
I've also seen recommendations on Fredericks and Spaulding (wish they had better websites with current used inventory, but may just have to call them).

Budget is $10k ish, but if a better buy is available for a little more, it will be considered.

Also, noticed some here are from the lowcountry...I currently live in Awendaw and the property is in Walterboro. If you have any other questions, please ask...just started this process and want to make the most of it. Thanks

Edit...
This is a tractor that caught my eye, but I'm assuming it is a Vietnam rebuilt one? I think this guy is a dealer as I've seen a few ads with this same tractor in different places.

Welcome to TBN !

Yes, the add you posted is of a Vietcong rebuilt tractor.

Fredricks or Wayne @ Little Miami tractor can sell you a grade A tractor, plus they will stand behind it with a good warranty and good service.

I haven't seen that one, I don't think.

I've emailed Fredericks to see what they have or have coming in in the size I am looking for.

I think you are are the right track more than you realize.

I have a similar tractor to the 3110D and its just the right size and power to do anything I need it for, they are fairly scarce though from what I have seen and a very desirable tractor. Its bigger than it looks in the pics btw I have had friends say mine isn't what they would call a CUT fwtw.

Parts are supposedly readily available for that chassis and engine and the powershift tranys are said to be bullet proof plus they are just really really nice to have. My own preference after seeing both a xx20 series and the xx10 series is the powershifter on the floor is so much more user friendly than a shifter on the column. my 2c

I personally haven't had any trouble getting the few parts for mine I have needed yet so far so good.

I honestly cant comment on VN refurbs other than to say if you manage to get a good tractor it wont matter where it came from you can buy crap that was refurbed in the US just as easily jmho.

The point CarDoc makes is a goodone. He just finished a head job on his US rebuilt yanmar.

Id consider Spalding in GA if your really going to buy a US rebuilt one. Your problem is that thats a good haul, so you would be dealing with him to get parts by mail in your case for everything short of a major or catistraphic failure. If your 3pt goes out you may be better to do it yourself, with warrenty parts because if you trailer it to GA you will have at least a 3-4 hour trip from Awendaw, each way and pay hundreds n fuel to go and come, and if you take it to someone local you pay the labor. This is just something to consider. After being here a year i think i would play CL and see what you can get. Also dont rule out a Kubota or JD or koti or manihandra used tractor 10 years or less. For that price range you can prolly buy a manihandra with less than 300 hours on it thats like 5 years old or you could get a koti. You can easily buy a 90's kuboo or JD for that price. There is a guy who sells recons in florence SC, there VN rebuilds but i think he has a ym2000 with a loader that is not a VN that he took in on trade, it has a koyker loader and you can see it on his main page. He also sells other tractors too like used 8ns and some various implements.

I know this is the Yanmar forum, but this Kubota is local...

2001 KUBOTA L3710GST Less than 40 HP For Sale At TractorHouse.com

Not really local to your home, but there local to the Boro. Thats what im talking about, and its not a 30 yr old tractor and you can walk into the store and get something for it hopefully, you will pay, but get it sometimes faster. Im not trying to talk you out of a yanmar but if your spending 10k you may want to look at others as well.

Im originally from charleston, so i know da lingo and have friends from all over there and hunted several times in walterboro. i bought just a bare bones tractor and i though yanmar was the best value i could get for my money, plus it was simple to work on and i did have a short warrenty for things that went wrong at first.

Check out the YM2500 30hp. which is basicly a JD 850. The one we bought from Spalding has been great and should do what your describing. It's only 2wd but all of my tractors are and never had a problem. This is a pic. of a
5103 2wd 55hp. thats great. Never needed 4wd to the day and been using it for over 4yrs and. haven't gotten stuck yet here in Ga.

There is a 5103 for sale here locally, I think. 2WD, so I didn't put it on the radar. Most of what we will do will not need 4wd, but I would like to have it for that one moment...

I had to do a lot of research to convince myself that paying the same money for a 30 year old Yanmar tractor ($14,500) vs a 5-7 year old JD or some other color of the same HP was a sound decision.

My wife even works at a JD dealer she cleans the offices after hours and she thought I had totally lost my mind and they weren't real happy with me either but they couldn't find one with a backhoe like I wanted I did give it a shot.

I am convinced I made the right decision based on what green, orange and white parts go for and the simplicity of these machines and the ease of working on them is a plus.

1800 hours on that Kubota

I'm a Yanmar fan, but my only real experience is from 400+ hp engines in my buddy's boat.

Yep these are no shrimp boats for sure, not even an offshore hatteras. But these older 2 cyls sure do have some torque. I can lover my boxblade and idle around through the hardpacked clay. The bushhog will turn and cut chest high grass easily at 1500rpms, really thick stuff needs to be turning high rpms though. Cheap parts is a plus, downside is that you have to be proficient on the net which you are. Our parts are even the same as some JD's if you know what to ask for, but unless i was in a pinch and they had it in the store i would not pay Jd's price for parts, esp if they have to order it, hoye will have it at your door in the same time it would take a jd dealer to get it anyway.

You should price a brand new mahindra or kioti, both offer 0% and not much above your budget, payments will be less if not the same as buying used unless you are paying cash.

Its new, more features and you get easy service.

Cardoc, am I reading it right that you gave 14,500 for a 30 yr old yanmar? I agree with your wife.
