Loose joystick - HELP !

   / Loose joystick - HELP ! #21
After my 2007 post I had it happen ONE more time, maybe year and a half ago. This time I removed the seat, 3pt lever & housing, joystick boot and got at the FEL control right proper. Took off joystick lever, cleaned w/brake clean then re-installed using the blue locktite. No problem since.

I think between the different metals (joystick lever, nuts, mount), differential heating/cooling and vibration are contributing to the "problem". Locktite is the cure.........so far. I'd just take it apart and get it right the first time and be done with it. Doesn't hurt to know how to get there in your leisure vs. having to do it in the middle of a chore for the first time.

Good luck.

Does the jam nut sit directly under the joy stick? And does the joy stick screw into it, or just held in place when the jam nut is tightened?

I will probalby take your advice and go for the full fix, blue locktite included. At this time the tractor is at the farm/hunting land and I may try the quick fix until I bring it back home.

It's only a small time investment to take the seat and the panels around the joystick off so you can remove the assembly and have a good look at how it all works. It's worth it for the education.

The joystick lever screws down into (don't the official name) it's mount and the jamb nut screws down to lock it into place. Don't be afraid to tear into it, it is really straight forward to remove the seat & panels. Simple wrench work. You'll be happy you did it. Mine loosened three times before the fix, none since.

Good luck.

Quick fix worked in the field, and I will try more complete fix once I have the tractor home. On seat removal, do I remove the entire plate under the seat that appears to be held by 8 -10 bolts? In other words, does the whole seat structure come out?

Yes, the whole seat comes out. There are bolts on the plate as you see. Then there is the plastic assembly to the left of the seat that the 3ph lever comes through that has to come off and lastly another metal plate that sits to the left of the seat and that surrounds the joystick assembly (it's easy to see once the seat is off). Note, you have to undo the linkage for the 3ph lever and backhoe if you have one, they are easy to see once the seat is off. The rear remote hookup is right in this area too so it's worth it to study where everything is for future reference. There are some wiring pigtails too but I don't know what the are for.

The joystick goes down and into a small box device that is held to the tractor by way of two long bolts that go through it from the rear.

The joystick itself screws into the top of the box device and the jam nut (which goes around the joystick before it screws into the box) keeps it tight.

Finally got my tractor home and followed the above step by step. Had no parts left over after I put it back together. Worked great. Thanks for the instructions, and encouragement.
