YES David.. simply unbolt the old one.. clean the gasket surface & reinstall the new one.. plug N play..
The old fuel lines are metric.. don't use SAE if at all possible.. & its not the end of the world if u do..
Your going to introduce AIR into the system once u open up/pull off the lines.. either to replace the lift pump or change the lines, so don't get discouraged when it wont start right up..
IF it were mine, once I got everything installed & tightened up.. I'd loosen the inlet line going INTO the inj. pump..
Spin the motor until I got a steady gush of fuel & no air & tighten it back up..
Put the throttle MID to FULL throttle & lite it off.. Pull the throttle back SLOWLY until it idles.. Good luck.

Thanks. I couldn't for the life of me figure out or find the fuel line size. I found the specs for the filter assembly and it said it accepted a to 5/16 to 3/8 hose. I ordered some 5/16 hose and some clips. I hope they are the right size.

It took awhile for it to start after I had blown out the lines the last time. I'll try your suggestion when I install the new parts.

As well, if your filter screen has a fuel shutoff lever, know that it can be 180 degrees out of sync and will act somewhat similar to what you describe. I had that happen on an M6800 when I simply turned the lever the wrong way. You never know so I thought it worth a mention. Mine drove me daffy (er) before I figured it out.

Thanks for that. There is no shut off lever, but it somehow stops flowing when you remove the bowl.

You might have a spring and rubber washer. Check the Messick's exploded parts list picture and make sure you have the right parts and in the right order. I have made this mistake despite decades of knowing better.

I'm still waiting for the lift pump (expected delivery 11/27) and the scope. Had to move 5+ inches off snow off my road today.
Got my yard done, neighbor's yard done, and started down the road (.3 mile). Got to the bottom (downhill) of the road and... yup, it died out again. I creeped back up about 2/3rds the way and couldn't make the last hill and had to park it. 2 hours later, I went out, it started and I got it back home. Thought I'd clean up some more snow while it was running and after 5-10 minutes, it lost power again. Started creeping back to the barn and it started running again. Did some quick clean up and put her in the barn.

I sure hope the new pump and tank inspection take care of this.

By chance do u have one of those "aftermarket" clear push-on filters, somewhere ?? U know the ones that u can see thru.. like a Wix 33971..
IF SO.. MAKE SURE its ON the right way.. I was out at a job site where they had the same problem & someone put it on wrong.. it has an arrow.
It would run until it emptied the main filter, shut it down, the filter would fill back up.. run some more & the same thing would happen..
Come to find out the filter was on wrong..

Thank. No, no other filter. The scope is suppose to arrive this afternoon and the new pump next week. Temps for the next few days are in the single digits (F) so I'll wait a bit before I check out the tank with the scope.

A scope is always nice to have.. but basically your trying to check for an obstruction, right?
You can achieve the same thing by, pulling the line off at the fuel tank & letting the fuel run into a container for A FEW minutes..
Normally, any debris will find its way to the outlet in that amount of time & slow the fuel flow..
BTW> what scope did u get.. they have a 20.00-30.00 one at walmart.. as seen on tv.. The Lizard Cam or something like that..

Agreed.

I didn't buy my inspection camera until after I knew the tank outlet was obstructed AGAIN and how much of a PITA it was to remove the tank the previous time. I knew something was in the tank, because I pulled the fuel line off when it quit running and got just a dribble of fuel until I stuck a skinny screwdriver up the outlet and got hosed with fuel.

That indicated a tank obstruction which could be pushed out of the way until it floated back over the outlet again, shutting off flow. Obstruction turned out to be a 'dirt daubber'....mud nest building wasp we have here that love to get into everything. My guess is one flew in the fuel nozzle of the tank (Hangs on the wall of my fuel shed) I use to fill the tractor......only way I could figure it got in the tank. Now I keep a cap on the nozzle end when I hang it back up, only removing to fill the tank, then right back on.

I just received this one for $19. I hooked it up to my phone and it works fine. I haven't gotten to the tractor with it yet.
